Punty's Early Mail
PUNTY EARLY MAIL, Gold Coast (2026-11-07)
For all of Punty's tips for Gold Coast, head to https://punty.ai/tips/gold-coast-2026-11-07
Rightio Legends, Gold Coast on a Soft 5 with the rail at +2m through the 1000m to 400m, and this card is two halves. The first four races are slow-run affairs where nobody wants the lead, then R5 onwards turns on the speed and the back half gets interesting. The bets follow that shape, so read the maps before you punt.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Gold Coast, 1000m to 2400m card
Rail: +2m 1000m to 400m. True Remainder
Official going: Soft 5
Weather: Fine, live gusts 20.4km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Slow in Races 1 to 4, Moderate in Race 5, Genuine in Races 6, 7 and 8. The front-runners have the gift in the sprints and the back half needs a collapse in the staying races.
Jockeys to follow:
Bobby El-Issa: Four rides, including Galavino in R5 and Monarchal in R4, two of our staked picks.
Karl Zechner: Four rides, including Lord Protector in R3, our Big 3 leg and R3 top pick.
Stephanie Tierney: Three rides, including Italian Dancer in R8 and Maximum Output in R6, who could lead uncontested.
Stables to respect:
Stuart & Bayley Kendrick (6 runners): Six runners across R5, R6 and R8, with Italian Dancer the one I'd be watching closest and Heartoni and Maximum Output both in the sprint.
Jack Bruce (4 runners): Larusso in R2 is the headline, and the stable has a 15.7% strike rate at this track over the season.
Allan Chau (4 runners): Perfect Tension in R4 was flagged for value and Flying Bat drops in against a big leader in R8.
Punty's take: The speed sits in the sprints and the staying races are a parade. Races 1 to 4 are all slow on paper, so the pace is going to be dictated by whoever gets to the lead without a fight, and in R1 that looks like Hopeful Cause from barrier 5. Nobody maps to lead in R4, which tells you the whole race is going to be a sit-and-wait, and that's where the staying form matters. The likeliest winners at the back end of the card come from the stables with runners in the right shape, and Kendrick has the most numbers across the meeting. R5 is the first race with real speed, with Galavino and Frostnip both wanting the lead from the inside and outside. R6 has Maximum Output out on his own on the map, which is the kind of setup that either wins on the day or dies in a ditch. R8 is the one I'd watch closest, with Flying Bat drawn barrier 13 and the back half set up for the run home.
What it means for you: Be aggressive on the single win bets where the shape backs the pick, and protect the value on the roughies where the speed is set up against them. The first four races are where you should be patient, so don't force anything you can't defend from the map. R5 and R6 are the chaos races, where the closers can win if the pace collapses, so the value sits with the horses who can run home. Keep the stakes tight on R7 until the market shows its hand, because the speed set-up there is clear but the price isn't. Stick to the bets as they're written and let the racing do the rest.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Lord Protector (Race 3, No.1) — $2.60
Why He won last start at Ipswich 2190m, the shape helps him from barrier 1 sitting back, and a Slow pace over 2400m is a lovely setup for a horse who wants a clear run.
2 - Larusso (Race 2, No.5) — $3.00
Why Three placings from his last three starts, Brandon Lerena is in the saddle, and Jack Bruce's stable has been running hot at Gold Coast.
3 - Cool Adaline (Race 1, No.8) — $2.85
Why Two Gold Coast runs with fastest time sectional, and Benjamin Osmond has three wins from eight rides with this horse.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 22.23 = $222.30
Race 1 – East Coast Concrete Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1700m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper, and nobody maps to lead, but the likeliest to get to the front is Hopeful Cause from barrier 5. Reel Patience from barrier 8 and Miss Chamonix from barrier 7 are both wide and need cover or luck. The shape favours the back half, which is a bit of a worry for Cool Adaline because he sits midfield from barrier 4 and the slow tempo works against him.
Punty read: Cool Adaline is the bet and I'm happy to back him because the Gold Coast form and the sectionals say he can run into it. The slow shape is against him, so he needs to find a gear late. Paradise As Usual from the back gets the trail behind Hopeful Cause and has the fastest sectionals on the card. Hopeful Cause has blinkers off first time and is the one most likely to be the danger if the speed holds up. This is a bit like a Mexican standoff where nobody wants to be first to move.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Cool Adaline (No.8) — $2.85 / $1.30
Bet $13.00 Win, return $37.05
Prob 26.7% | Place: 62.6% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Two Gold Coast runs with a 5th on each, fastest time sectional, and three wins from eight rides with Benjamin Osmond. The slow pace is a headwind, but he has the speed to run through it late.
2. Paradise As Usual (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.3% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 0.98x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Hopeful Cause (No.1) — $3.10 / $1.35
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy and is the one most likely to find the front from barrier 5. Blinkers off first time and a nose roll on, so there's a change to watch in the mounting yard.
Roughie: Irish Handcuffs (No.2) — $9.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 29.4% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field with sectional ranks of 2 (L600), 3 (L400) and 2 (time), and his last start was a 7th at Gold Coast 1400m where he was bumped and hampered. If the slow tempo collapses into a sprint, he can run home.
Race 2 – Neumann Steel (Bm62)
Race type: Benchmark 62, 1800m
Map & tempo: Slow pace again, and nobody maps to lead. All About Artie from barrier 2 and Vermilion Kirin from barrier 7 are the likeliest to find the front, but Vermilion has to work from wide. Our Turn Now from barrier 6 needs cover. Larusso sits midfield from barrier 4 and the shape is against him, so he'll need to get the run of the race to win.
Punty read: Larusso is the bet and the reason is the form, not the shape. Three placings from the last three starts and Jack Bruce's stable is hot at the track. All About Artie is the one most likely to get the front from the inside, and the market has him well backed at $5.50. Our Turn Now is a serious chance from midfield, and Dream Thinker has the fastest sectionals on the card, which makes him one to watch for the late run.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. Larusso (No.5) — $3.20 / $1.65
Bet $11.50 Win, return $36.80
Prob 27.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Three placings from his last three runs, with Brandon Lerena riding and a 28% strike rate for the trainer at track over the last 100. The shape is against him, but he has enough class to get through it.
2. All About Artie (No.3) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.1% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Our Turn Now (No.1) — $6.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why Sits midfield from barrier 6 and his 5 wins from 41 starts shows he can win on a soft track. The 3kg rise from last start is a concern though.
Roughie: He's A Saint (No.8) — $10.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 1 with fastest time sectional and an L600 rank of 2. If the leaders go too hard in a 1800m race, he's the one who can swoop from the back.
NOTE: This is a seven-runner field and only two places pay, so the win-only approach on the top pick is the sensible play.
Race 3 – Carpet Call (Bm60)
Race type: Benchmark 60, 2400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace over 2400m, and Quality Miss from barrier 7 is the likeliest to get to the front. That's a wide trip for a horse wanting the lead, so he has to work for it. Desert Angel from barrier 8 and Showman from barrier 9 both need cover or luck from the back. Lord Protector settles back from barrier 1 and the shape helps him.
Punty read: Lord Protector is the bet because the shape suits his back-of-the-field riding and he's been running on at the finish. He won last start at Ipswich 2190m and his trainer has a hot run at 11% over the last 100. Makamae sits midfield from barrier 4 and has the fastest sectional on the card, so he's the one most likely to chase Lord Protector home. Quality Miss is the danger if the pace holds up, because he's drawn wide and needs everything to go right.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Lord Protector (No.1) — $2.70 / $1.30
Bet $7.50 Win, return $20.25
Prob 32.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Won at Ipswich 2190m last start and his trip from barrier 1 with the shape helping him makes him the bet. He's up 3kg from last start, but the record says he's at his best at lighter weights.
2. Makamae (No.2) — $3.70 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.9% | Place: 62.9% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Quality Miss (No.5) — $8.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.07x Steady since tip
Why Drawn wide at barrier 7 but he's the most likely to get to the front, and a 2nd and 1st in his last two runs at Gatton shows he can get the job done.
Roughie: Bolero (No.6) — $11.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.8% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 3 with a fastest L600 sectional. If the leaders run out of petrol on the long run home, Bolero is the one who can run past them.
Race 4 – TM Stone Mdn Hcp
Race type: Maiden, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace and nobody maps to lead or sit handy, so it's a sit-and-wait race. Mighty Successful from barrier 11 is the one who gets the shape advantage on paper but he's drawn wide and needs cover. Monarchal sits midfield from barrier 7 and the slow shape isn't ideal, but his sectionals say he can run home.
Punty read: Monarchal is the bet because the sectionals are the reason, not the shape. Fastest time and a rank 2 at L400 at Gold Coast, with a trainer at 20% over the last 100 at track. Puharich is the one who was unlucky last start and has the second-best claims. Dancing By from the back has the fastest L400 and gets the trail behind the leaders if they stall.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Monarchal (No.11) — $3.30 / $1.57
Bet $13.00 Win, return $42.90
Prob 23.4% | Place: 59.5% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Eagle Farm 11th was an interference run and the 1st at Doomben 1000m on 2026-10-06 shows he's still got a gear. Bobby El-Issa rides and the trainer's runners have been firing.
2. Puharich (No.4) — $4.00 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.1% | Place: 54.1% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Dancing By (No.10) — $5.00 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Winkers off first time and a fastest L400 sectional. Back of the field with a 1st at Gold Coast Poly 1050m on the last start line.
Roughie: Vela Fortune (No.7) — $15.00 / $3.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.5% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Nasal strip, tongue tie and winkers all on first time, so the gear change is a full makeover. Jockey Ryan Wiggins has 16% at track over the last 100, and a 33% combo with the trainer. If the race is a sit-and-wait and the favourites tire, the gear could bring him into it.
Race 5 – Peak Property Services (Bm65)
Race type: Benchmark 65, 1000m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace on paper, but Frostnip from barrier 9 and Galavino from barrier 1 both want the lead. Galavino gets the inside and wins that fight, and Frostnip has to work from the outside to get there. That hands Idleonby the perfect sit behind them, and the shape suits the forward runners. Crown Guinea from barrier 7 needs cover.
Punty read: Galavino is the bet and I'm not pretending the price is a bargain at $1.90, but the inside draw and the shape make him the one. He won his last start at Gold Coast 1000m and his trainer has run hot at track. Idleonby is the danger, a horse who'll sit handy and has the shape advantage at 1.11 on paper. Frostnip is the horse who gets the lead on the outside and is the one who might be the surprise if Galavino goes too quick.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Galavino (No.6) — $1.90 / $1.12
Bet $15.00 Win, return $28.50
Prob 24.2% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 0.46x Steady since tip
Why Won at Gold Coast 1000m last start and draws the inside from barrier 1. The shape helps him, and he's the one who will lead uncontested if Frostnip is pushed out.
2. Idleonby (No.7) — $6.00 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.11x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Frostnip (No.5) — $6.50 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why Gets the lead from the outside and has run into the speed before. Tongue tie on again, and the weight warning is a concern.
Roughie: Moroccan Wind (No.4) — $10.00 / $2.70
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 6 and has the form in the sprints at 850m and 1000m. If the leaders kill each other off, he can sneak through on the inside.
Market note: Crown Guinea (No.8) is the one to watch, having been backed from $16.00 to $12.00 with a HEAVY move. The only hard reason I can see in the data is a fastest L400 sectional of 2 and a wide run at Sunshine Coast.
Race 6 – CorpSure Insurance Broking Hcp
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace and Maximum Output from barrier 9 is the only leader on the card. He has to work across from the outside, and the nearest pressure comes from Blitzburg from barrier 7, Heartoni from barrier 5 and Shirvington from barrier 1. The shape favours the forward runners, so the front-runners get the reward if they can get to the lead.
Punty read: Shirvington is the bet, sitting handy from the inside and riding the shape well. Blinkers on first time, a Gold Coast 1000m win on the form, and the shape helps him. Heartoni is the danger from barrier 5, with a second at Sunshine Coast Inner 1000m last start. Maximum Output is the roughie with the uncontested lead, if he can get across from barrier 9 without getting burnt off.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)
1. Shirvington (No.7) — $3.60 / $1.60
Bet $7.00 Win, return $25.20
Prob 18.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.66x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 1 and the shape helps him. Blinkers on first time, and his jockey and trainer combo is a 25% strike rate (8 wins from 32).
2. Heartoni (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.2% | Place: 45.6% | Value: 0.99x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Moonhaven (No.5) — $5.00 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 4 with a 2nd at Eagle Farm 1000m's shorter brother run last start. Jockey Ryan Wiggins has a 17.4% strike rate at track.
Roughie: Maximum Output (No.1) — $12.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.0% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.72x Steady since tip
Why The only leader on the map from barrier 9 with 5 wins from 29 at the 1000m trip. If he gets across cleanly and the field goes too hard behind him, he's the one who can steal this.
Race 7 – Join The Titans Legion Hcp (60)
Race type: Restricted 60, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace and La Profecia from barrier 1 is the only leader on the card for this one. He gets the clean inside lead, and nearest pressure from Lyrical Gangster from barrier 7 and Britannia Rose from barrier 3. The shape suits the back half, with Baltray and Monte Carlo Miss both rated advantaged on paper but starting wide at barrier 10 and barrier 11. They need the speed to collapse and a clean run round the turn.
Punty read: Market's not up for this one yet, so my tips land closer to the jump.
Race 8 – Titans Corporate Hospitality (Bm70)
Race type: Benchmark 70, 1400m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace and Flying Bat from barrier 13 is the only leader on the map. He's drawn on the outside and has to work across, and the nearest pressure comes from Italian Dancer from barrier 3 and Seneschal from barrier 2. Nightcapped, Till Dusk and Ed I Am are all rated advantaged on the shape, which is a lovely setup for the closers if the leader goes too hard.
Punty read: Italian Dancer is the bet because he sits handy from the inside, the shape helps him, and his trainer and jockey combo has a 28.6% strike rate. Jukebox In Siberia is the danger coming from midfield, having won last start at Lismore 1410m by a short half length. Ed I Am from barrier 12 has the fastest L600 and L400 sectionals, which makes him the one to watch if the field gets stretched.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Italian Dancer (No.2) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet $10.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 16.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 3 with 6 wins from 25 and a Soft record of 2 wins from 10. Stephanie Tierney has the rides and the trainer's runners are in form.
2. Jukebox In Siberia (No.13) — $11.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 25.8% | Value: 1.21x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $3.30 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ed I Am (No.14) — $6.00 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.6% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why Fastest L600 and L400 sectionals on the card, and the shape advantage from barrier 12 means he's the one who can run through them late.
Roughie: Nightcapped (No.11) — $16.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 29.3% | Value: 1.24x Steady since tip
Why Advantaged on the shape with a 1.11 map factor. Gold Coast 1400m last start was a 6th, but he's been placed at this trip and the closers suit a genuine pace.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Shirvington's blinkers go on
Blinkers ON first time for Shirvington (No.7) in R6, the horse we're backing. Gold Coast 1000m win last start on 2026-10-06, so the gear change is a sharp tweak on a horse already going well.
2 - Crown Guinea money coming in
Crown Guinea (No.8) in R5 opened $16.00 and is now $12.00 [HEAVY]. The only hard reason in the data is a fastest L400 rank of 2, so I'd be watching the market before the jump.
3 - Vela Fortune's makeover
Nasal strip, tongue tie and winkers all ON first time for Vela Fortune (No.7) in R4. Three new bits on the one horse is a full makeover, the sort of thing that makes a bloke at the rail stare at the form twice.
FINAL WORD FROM THE RATBAG REPORT
Slow races are where the favourites get sleepy and the roughies get sneaky, so keep your eyes open in R1 and R4. Back the bets as they're written, enjoy the arvo, and don't chase the ones that got away.
