Punty's Early Mail
PUNTY EARLY MAIL, Goulburn (2026-11-07)
For all of Punty's tips for Goulburn, head to https://punty.ai/tips/goulburn-2026-11-07
Rightio Degenerates, Goulburn on a Good 4 with the rail out 6m, a fine day and gusts up to 40.8km/h, and it's a card that rewards the punters who read the map instead of the pretty names. Six races, 1100m to 1600m, and the speed sorts itself out in a hurry on a card like this. Grab a coffee, get the ticket sorted, and let's get into it.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Goulburn, 1100m to 1600m card
Rail: +6m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (Nil last 24hrs, 8mm last 7 days)
Weather: Fine, live gusts 40.8km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Races 1 and 6 are Moderate Pace, Races 2 to 5 are Slow Pace. Nobody maps to lead in most of the card, so the front-runners will be the story in the two races with contested or named leaders.
Jockeys to follow:
Shaun Guymer: five rides on the card, including Our Kinsmen in Race 1 and Mystic Air in Race 5, and he's riding a stack of the backmarkers and handy types I'll be watching for the late sit.
Nick Heywood: four rides, including Gunfighter Road in Race 4 and Jimmy's Ready in Race 5, and he has 730 wins from 4914 rides at this track, the best jockey number on the card.
Deanne Panya: two rides, both of them picks: Three Wishes in Race 2 and Ocean Empress in Race 6.
Stables to respect:
J Rolfe (5 runners): five runners on the card, with Memphis Tennessee firming from $8.50 to $7.50 in Race 4 and the stable's Jackets and Crusader Razor in the Race 5 long-shot end of the market.
J M Austin (3 runners): Three Wishes and Ocean Empress are both picks, and Mystic Air is the longer shot in Race 5, so the stable has a bit of everything on the card.
J M Cleary (3 runners): Jimmy's Ready is a Race 5 pick and The Adige is in Race 4, so the Cleary barn has two of the closer-watched runners on the day.
Punty's take: Race 1 is where the speed question is answered first. Nobody maps to lead, the likely front-runners are Wish You Were Here, Our Kinsmen and Off Shaw, and the first two out of the gates will tell us a lot about who gets the trip. Race 2 and Race 3 are both Slow Pace and both pretty tidy for those who like to sit handy or settle back and wait. Real Magical is the one the map loves in Race 2, and Race 3 is where I think the sprint-style finishers are going to be the ones to chase. Race 4 looks like a Gunfighter Road ask on the inside, and Race 5 is a Slow Pace race with a backmarker-heavy finish, the sort of race where a four-length sit on the rail decides the day. Race 6 is the chaos race. Two runners map to lead, Ken'ker and Prince Of Love, and they're drawn two and eight, so there's a real fight for the front and the trip-cover runners get their chance.
What it means for you: Race 2 and Race 3 look like the bankers if you want to load up with the picks, with Three Wishes and Fly The Wind the horses I'd be happy to see at the top of the ticket. Race 1 and Race 6 are the ones to protect with a bit more care, because the moderate pace gives the midfield runners a chance but the shape is against two of my picks. Race 5 is where the value sits in the each-way play, with Kathleen's Prayer the one I'll back each way. Keep the stakes tight in the chaos races and let the banker races do the heavy lifting.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Ole Miss (Race 1, No.2) — $2.45
Why The top price in Race 1 and the horse the market is leaning on, with blinkers back on and a good-track record that has been reliable. The trip from midfield is the one question mark, but the class record is solid and the stable's strike rate at this track is one of the better numbers around.
2 - Fly The Wind (Race 3, No.8) — $2.90
Why The fastest time on his record and a third at Taree 1600m last start, which is the sort of finish you want from a backmarker in a slow race. The shape is against him, so the Damon Budler ride and the sectional speed are what make this a Big 3 pick.
3 - Three Wishes (Race 2, No.6) — $3.30
Why A midfield runner in a Slow Pace race where the shape helps him, and he has run second and third in his last two starts at Orange. The Deanne Panya booking and a stable that's been finding winners at a steady clip keeps him at the top of my list in a race that doesn't have many runners who can finish.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 23.45 = $234.50
Race 1 – Goulpro
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, and nobody maps to lead, so the front will be a scramble between Wish You Were Here, Our Kinsmen and Off Shaw. Our Kinsmen on barrier 1 is the cheapest one to grab it, and Ole Miss sits midfield from barrier 3 with the shape against him. Golden Warrior and Giovanna Star are both drawn wide and the shape hurts them, so the late charge is going to need a fair bit of luck.
Punty read: Ole Miss is the bet and the one I'm happy to have a $15 win on at $2.45. Blinkers go back on, he's been racing wide and got the excuse of a wide run last time out at Muswellbrook, and his good-track record is one win, one second and one third from five. He's a second-up horse with a good record there, and Emma Ly has the ride. The shape is against him from midfield, so he has to find a way through. Class is the reason he can still do it. Giovanna Star at $3.00 is the one I'd like to see run down the track, because she's a backmarker in a moderate race and the shape isn't helping her. Wish You Were Here is a danger off a 195-day break, with no wins from two first-up starts on the card's profile.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Ole Miss (No.2) — $2.60 / $1.45
Bet $15.00 Win, return $39.00
Prob 39.1% | Place: 65.7% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Good 5 record of one win, one second and one third, a class record of 2:0-0-1, and Emma Ly on a horse who's been around the place. Blinkers go back on, and that's the sort of gear change worth respecting. Midfield from barrier 3 in a moderate race is the only worry.
2. Giovanna Star (No.7) — $3.00 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.8% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Wish You Were Here (No.1) — $3.70 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.70x Steady since tip
Why A proven on-pace runner with a good track record, but she's been off for 195 days and has no wins from two first-up starts. Jordan Quince has been strong at this track, and she's a horse I'd want to see in the market before backing.
Roughie: Our Kinsmen (No.3) — $12.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why The inside draw and on-pace speed give him the easiest path to the front if the pace stays soft. He needs the others to hesitate and the rail to stay kind, and a win at this price is a long shot that gets the blood pumping.
Race 2 – The Country Outfitters Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1300m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with nobody mapping to lead or sit handy. Real Magical is the one the shape helps most from barrier 8, but she has to work her way round from the back. Three Wishes is midfield from barrier 2 and the shape suits him, so he can take the trail and sit where he wants.
Punty read: Three Wishes is the bet and the one I'd back with a $13 win at $3.30. A midfield runner in a Slow Pace race is the right trip, and he has run second and third in his last two starts. The Good record is one win, one second and three thirds from five, and the stable's Jockey Deanne Panya has a good record at this track. Crestwood is the one I'd want watched, because she's a midfielder with a strong combo rate with Blaike Mc Dougall. Real Magical from barrier 8 is the danger if she can get a clean run through the back.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Three Wishes (No.6) — $3.30 / $1.40
Bet $13.00 Win, return $42.90
Prob 26.3% | Place: 61.7% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why Second at Orange last start and third at Orange before that, with the shape helping a midfield runner. Deanne Panya on, and the Good record shows enough to be the one to beat.
2. Crestwood (No.5) — $4.00 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.7% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Thepowerofzen (No.4) — $3.50 / $1.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.2% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why First-up win at Warwick Farm 1207m last start, with blinkers on for the first time. Shaun Guymer riding, and the blinkers are the gear change to watch.
Roughie: Queen Medici (No.7) — $13.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Quayde Krogh and J M Cleary have a combo of 14.7% with 14 wins from 95 rides together here. She's a wide-open chance at a big price, and a Slow Pace race can produce a surprise for a horse who settles out the back.
Race 3 – Killahy Equine Plate (C1)
Race type: Class 1, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with nobody mapping to lead or sit handy. Fly The Wind is a backmarker from barrier 6 and the shape is against him, while Rapid Reigns is a backmarker from barrier 7 that needs cover. Classic Touch is midfield from barrier 1 and the shape doesn't help a horse like Milchel, so the front-end is going to be quiet and the closers will need a clean run.
Punty read: Fly The Wind is the bet and the one I'd back with an $11.50 win at $2.90. He's the fastest sectional time on record and third at Taree 1600m last start. The shape is against him as a backmarker in a slow race, so the danger is the same one he faces every week, the lack of pace up front. Damon Budler has been flying with 15% strikes in the last 100 rides, so the ride is working. Rapid Reigns is the one I'd like to see run on, because he won at Canberra 1600m last start and Nick Heywood is on him. Classic Touch has had blinkers taken off for the first time, which is a gear change to watch.
Top 3 + Roughie ($11.50 pool)
1. Fly The Wind (No.8) — $3.00 / $1.62
Bet $11.50 Win, return $34.50
Prob 27.5% | Place: 51.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Fastest sectional time on his record and a third at Taree 1600m last start after a clean run. Damon Budler has been hot in the last 100 rides and the closing speed is what makes him the one to beat.
2. Rapid Reigns (No.2) — $4.40 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Classic Touch (No.3) — $4.80 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers off for the first time, and his Track 4:0-2-1 record tells you he's been running well at the place. He's midfield from barrier 1 and the rail draw helps a horse who can settle in behind the speed.
Roughie: Milchel (No.6) — $11.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why A backmarker who has finished well in the closing stages, with sectional rank two at both 600m and 400m. The weight warning, 0 wins from four at 58-60kg, is the reason he's a roughie and not a pick, but a slow pace that keeps the field bunched would suit a closer.
Race 4 – RJ Sidney Craig (Bm50)
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. Gunfighter Road is the one the shape makes a leader from barrier 6, and he's drawn wide enough to have to work for the front. Farraige is a backmarker from barrier 5 and the shape hurts him, and Ever Was is midfield and hurt by the shape too. Nobody is clearly suited, so the one who gets the trip is the one who doesn't get caught wide.
Punty read: Gunfighter Road is the bet and the one I'd back with a $12 win at $3.50. He's won one and placed one from six, and his 1st-up record is three starts for one win and one second. Winkers came off for the first time, so the gear change is worth noting. He's on the speed from barrier 6, which is the trip I want with a Slow Pace race, but the shape is against a pace-on horse in a field of seven. Nick Heywood on board. The Adige is the one I'd like to see run down, because he's a midfield horse with the strongest class of the group, and Farraige is the one whose price has drifted from $5.00 to $6.50 without a reason I can see in the data.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)
1. Gunfighter Road (No.3) — $3.50 / $1.82
Bet $12.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 25.9% | Place: 53.7% | Value: 0.91x Steady since tip
Why Nick Heywood on, the winkers have come off, and his 1st-up record is one win and one second from three starts. The on-speed trip from barrier 6 is the right one for a Slow Pace race, and the shape is the only thing I'm not comfortable with.
2. The Adige (No.1) — $2.70 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.59x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Farraige (No.2) — $7.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.16x Steady since tip
Why Plenty of placings, with 11 seconds and 11 thirds from 65 starts, and the Good 28 record shows six seconds but no wins. He's a backmarker in a slow race, which is a tough trip, but Jordan Quince and D Wagstaff have a combo strike rate of 28.6% at this track.
Roughie: Ozzy The Equaliser (No.5) — $9.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.79x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers off again, a tongue tie removed for the first time and a tongue control bit on, a true gear shake-up. He has the fastest time sectional on his record and good form at this trip, and Blaike Mc Dougall can ride him into the finish if the pace is slow. The price has firmed from $11.00 to $9.00, so someone is listening.
Race 5 – Aureum Finance Hcp (C1)
Race type: Class 1, 1200m
Map & tempo: Slow pace. Jimmy's Ready is the one the shape helps most as a midfielder from barrier 8, while Brass Monkeys is on the speed from barrier 9 and the shape hurts him. Kathleen's Prayer is a backmarker from barrier 2 and the shape is against her, but she has a clean run down the inside if the field bunches. The front-end is contested by Crusader Razor and Brass Monkeys in theory, but the trip is all about who gets the cover.
Punty read: Kathleen's Prayer is the bet, a $10.50 each-way at $5.00. The each-way covers the chance of the place as well as the win, and the place numbers are the reason I'm happy with her at this price. She has won one from two career starts and the first-up win is a good sign. Jockey Rebecca Bronett Prag and N F Gardner are a 13.7% combo with ten wins from 73 rides together, so the combination has been working. She drifted from $2.25 to $5.00 and I can't see a reason in the data for that move, so I'm taking the price and not looking for a story. Jimmy's Ready is the danger with the Nick Heywood ride and the shape helping him. Brass Monkeys is the one to watch on the speed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Kathleen's Prayer (No.3) — $6.00 / $1.70
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $40.43 if it wins ($31.50 win + $8.93 place), $8.93 if it only places
Prob 22.0% | Place: 59.3% | Value: 1.32x Steady since tip
Why The first-up win on her record, with a fastest 400m sectional. The Rebecca Bronett Prag and N F Gardner combo has been working, and the each-way covers the place if the trip doesn't go her way.
2. Jimmy's Ready (No.2) — $3.40 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 60.0% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Brass Monkeys (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.9% | Place: 47.8% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 9 but the shape works against him, and he's carrying 61-62kg with no wins from two at that weight. Emma Ly is on, and a Good 5 record of no wins and two thirds shows he's a consistent placegetter.
Roughie: Hillbily Kynection (No.10) — $9.50 / $2.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.5% | Place: 33.6% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why The price has been heavily backed from $23.00 to $9.50, which is a move worth noting. He's a midfield horse with a sectional time rank two, and a slow pace suits a runner who can come off the pace late. The weight has been a problem, with no wins from five at 58-60kg, so he's a roughie for the place.
Race 6 – 13 Skips (Bm50)
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace, with two runners mapping to lead. Ken'ker leads from barrier 2 and Prince Of Love leads from barrier 8, so the fight for the front is real and the one drawn wide has to work to cross. Ocean Empress is midfield from barrier 3 and the shape helps her, while Big Steve is midfield too and gets the most help from a moderate pace.
Punty read: Ocean Empress is the bet and the one I'd back with an $8.50 win at $2.30. The shape helps her from midfield, and she has won at the track and at this distance from her one start on each. Jockey Deanne Panya and the J M Austin barn have not combined well here, so the ride is the one question mark. Ken'ker is the one who has the lead and the blinkers off, so the fight for the front will be on. Minks Written is midfield with the trip she needs and is the one I'd like to see in a quick finish.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Ocean Empress (No.3) — $2.60 / $1.17
Bet $8.50 Win, return $22.10
Prob 24.3% | Place: 62.2% | Value: 0.63x Steady since tip
Why The shape helps her from midfield, and her Good record is one win from one start with the track and distance records matching. Deanne Panya on, and the price is short but the trip is right.
2. Minks Written (No.4) — $4.80 / $1.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.9% | Place: 52.7% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.65 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Ken'ker (No.2) — $6.00 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why Leads from barrier 2 and has blinkers off again, with a Good 25 record of one win, five seconds and five thirds. Jordan Quince is riding for D Wagstaff, and the front-running trip is the one he wants.
Roughie: Executive Decision (No.1) — $10.00 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 32.2% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why He's midfield and needs the leaders to cook, which is the path if Ken'ker and Prince Of Love fight too hard. A 2nd-up win at a distance he's proven at keeps him on the list, and Jack Baker is riding for Mark Cross.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R3–R6)
Smart: 8,2,3 / 3,1,2 / 2,3,1,10 / 3,4,2 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Race 3 is tight with Fly The Wind and Rapid Reigns, Race 4 has three runners, and Races 5 and 6 are wide open with four each. The 36.5% flexi is above the 30% floor, and a quaddie needs a longer winner somewhere to pay well, so the payout comes from a Race 5 or Race 6 upset and not a row of favourites.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Ole Miss goes back to blinkers
Blinkers are ON (again) for Ole Miss in Race 1, and he's been racing wide with a 9th at Muswellbrook last time out. Watch the market on the way to the jump.
2 - Hillbily Kynection's market shake-up
He opened at $23.00 and is now $9.50 with heavy support, but his weight form shows no wins from five at 58-60kg. The money is coming in, so keep an eye on the weight.
3 - Race 6 is a two-man lead fight
Ken'ker and Prince Of Love both map to lead, drawn two and eight, so it's like two blokes fighting over the last schnitzel at the bistro. The one who wins that fight gets the favoured trip.
FINAL WORD FROM THE RATBAG REPORT
Goulburn has got the lot, from a Moderate Pace opener to a two-man fight for the lead in the last race. Back the banker races with a clear head, protect the chaos with small stakes, and let the speed sort the winners out.
