Punty's take: Heavy 10 at Wanganui is always about who doesn't panic. The slow tempos mean the leaders can steal a breather, then the real test starts at the point where everyone else is still looking for clear air. In these conditions, if you're stuck, you're done, and if you're balanced and travelling, you've got a shot even if you're not first out the gates.

So here's my game plan. In the early maidens, I'm sticking with the market leaders where they've got the right draw, but I'm also flicking my switch to value roughies when the big drift happens, because Heavy 10 punishes overbet favourites that aren't actually set up for the day. Then from Race 5 onwards, it's "breathe, decide, and pounce", because the fields get more competitive and one bad route through the mud can turn a winner into a bloke arguing with stewards in the carpark.
