Rightio Loose Units, Emerald on a Soft 5 with the rail true, and the whole card feels like it's gonna reward either proper class or pure audacity. Either way, today's for the legends with tickets in hand and bad decisions already queued up in the brain.

Punty's take: This meeting's got that Soft 5 vibe where backmarkers can get home, but only if the race setup doesn't butcher the leaders too early. So I'm not chasing absolute chaos in every race, I'm chasing the ones where the speed is real enough for the finishers to have a crack.

Race 1 is the classic "favourite's value is in the distribution, not the wow factor", with Anthropology looking like the sort that can just keep grinding on. Race 4 is the money race of the back half, Victory Bay with the map to do the job. Then Race 5 is a slow-build style staying around the right tempo, and Cold One looks like the one who can travel while others are still negotiating the track.

What it means for you: Be aggressive where the pace picture backs it, and be picky where the Soft 5 can turn a "looks easy" race into a guessing contest. I'm locking the spine into three horses across the card, then I'm sprinkling the roughies where the shape says they can swoop, even if the price is cheeky.

If you're playing straight, keep it tight. If you're playing exotics, keep it disciplined. Big quaddie style chaos is always tempting on a wet-ish day, but today's the kind of card where you'll want at least one proper favourite in the mix.

Punty read: Anthropology at barrier 1 is the sort of setup that screams "get position, then take the easy option when the gaps show". On Soft 5, you don't need to be flying early, you just need to be in the right spots when the field starts juggling footing. Bel Song is the other danger, because she can keep herself near enough to pounce if the early speed collapses. Loquito is the type that can run a big race if they don't make it too hard early, but I want Anthropology to be first cab off the rank in the grinding section.

Wayfarer's Way is the value angle because she's built for this sort of open race where the leaders might not run as clean as they think. I'm keeping I'm Stellar involved as the "what if they find the gap" type. Desert Star and Straya Pride are the ones that can jump up and ruin a tidy trifecta if the tempo changes late, and Armstrong Bay is the wildcard body that can creep into the picture.

Punty read: This is a race where slow pace turns into a tactical picnic for the right horse, and Victory Bay is that horse. With the rail true and Soft-ish conditions, you want runners who can sit in range and then come off the bridle without needing to fly straight into the wind of the field. Fine Shot is the danger because he's got the right vibe to be prominent. I'm Zac's the "can sneak into the trifecta if luck lands" type. Zipitalist and Bayerische are for the value junkies, but Victory Bay looks like she's got the correct balance of intent and timing.

Final Comment is the one that can run into the money if the leaders start stacking up. Kayleen's Profit is a roughie that can grab third or fourth if the finish develops wild enough, but I'm keeping my main focus on Cold One and the place framework behind her.
