For all of Punty's tips for Mendooran, head to https://punty.ai/tips/mendooran-2026-09-05

Rightio Loose Units, Mendooran on a Good 3 with the clouds lurking like your mate who always "might be in a group chat later" and then ghosts you, is exactly the sort of day where pace and position do the heavy lifting. If you're waiting for the perfect bet, the whole field will already be home and you'll be watching the replay like a cranky uncle.

Tonight's got that shower risk, 13 degrees, and a bit of chop in the air. Translation, the track should race fairly true, but if it gets a quick spit, the backmarkers that usually "never went a yard" suddenly remember they've got legs.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Good 3, 1200-1900m card
Rail: True
Official going: Good 3 (expected to play Speed vs Stamina)
Weather: Shower, 13°C, feels like 8.4°C, watch for late drizzle nerves (rain risk 45%+ at 19:00)
Early lane guess: Speed up high, stalkers get paid, backmarkers only with cover
Tempo profile: Slow to moderate most of the program, then it turns into a proper sprint-fest in Race 5
Jockeys to follow:
Juliet Partridge: She looks like the one who keeps landing on the right bit of turf when races stretch out.
Diego Montes De Oca: Races with purpose, and today's maps suit him to be in the mix early.
Ms J Clement (riding stable influence): The Clement crew always seem to have one ready to pounce when the others are still thinking.
Stables to respect:
Ms J Clement (8 runners): Aggressive with gear and intent, and she's got multiple chances across the card.
Todd Smith (4 runners): If the pace lands how he wants, his horses are usually there when the bell goes.
Kylie Kennedy (2 runners): Small numbers, but the type that can run into it when the tempo changes.

Punty's take:

This card is split into two vibes. First half, it's position and patience, especially around the 1200-1500m races where a slow tempo means the real winners are the ones that can hold a spot without getting shuffled into a coffin. You want runners that can either lead or sit just off the leaders, because on a True rail you're living in lanes and lanes are everything.

Then Race 5 at 1000m is the chaos button. Hot pace, short sprint, and if you're not on speed or close to it, you're basically doing a scenic tour of Mendooran while everyone else races home. Pattera is right in the thick of it, and I'm expecting the rest to scramble for the right bit of speed map like it's the last snag at the footy canteen.

What it means for you:

Back the horses that look like they'll get a clean run into the race pattern. When the map says leader or handy, you buy it. When a horse is bred to sprint and the field is running hot, you don't "hope" for late luck, you pay attention from the jump.

For your bet plan, I'm leaning into the spine: Surpasser in Race 1 to keep things rolling, Risk Assessment in Race 2 as the class-pace lever, and Ridgeback in Race 3 because the short sprint maiden profile screams "one of these has to break through."

And then Quaddie time, you don't go full degenerate wide in every leg. You use the tight stuff where it's justified, and you only open up where the race itself is built like a bar fight.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Risk Assessment (Race 2, No.5) — $2.68
Why Maps straight into the right part of the pace and the market price still feels fair for what she does.
2 - Surpasser (Race 1, No.2) — $2.54
Why Blinkers off first time can sharpen the edge, and she's built to sit close with the slow tempo.
3 - Ridgeback (Race 3, No.2) — $2.80
Why On the speed, in the pocket, and the maiden group looks like it's crying out for this style of run.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × ~ $19 collect

Race 1 – Pace vs Patience (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, No.2 should get every opportunity to control it early
Punty read: This is the sort of 1500m where the front doesn't always sprint, it just decides who's allowed to breathe. Surpasser has the gate and the early rhythm, so if she handles the first-time blinkers and just sits handy, she's the kind of winner that makes the rest look like they were late to the party. Mariko's got a case for the "slow build" run if the race stays strangled, and Stormy Malice is the danger if she gets to unwind late from her backmarker spot, especially if any wet blotches show up and the sprint section becomes a grinding contest.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.00 pool)

1. Surpasser (No.2) — $2.54 / $1.51
Bet $12.00 Win, return $30.48
Prob 38.0% | Place: 60.9% | Value: 0.97x
Why Gate speed, slow tempo suits, and first-time blinkers could give her that little extra snap when others start looping.
2. Stormy Malice (No.4) — $4.08 / $2.03
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 0.99x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Mariko (No.1) — $6.33 / $2.78
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.0% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.05x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Spectacular Star (No.7) — $12.50 / $4.83
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.61x
Why If the race turns into a late-game slog and the leaders overcook it, she's the sort that can creep into the fight down the outside.

Race 2 – Benchmark Mayhem (Bm50)

Race type: Bm50, 1500m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace, Himeros on the front but Risk Assessment's the danger in the finish
Punty read: This race is about who gets to tag the leaders without getting cooked, because with a genuine tempo the wrong position can trap you. Risk Assessment is the one I want in my pocket. She's the closer who's been doing the right things, and the excuses in the recent runs for others leave a few doors open. Johnny Boz looks like the obvious "third quarter" threat if she can get into an economical spot, and Sidenay is a sneaky play for the same reason, but Risk Assessment is the one that has the most direct line to putting her head in front at the business end.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Risk Assessment (No.5) — $2.68 / $1.56
Bet $15.00 Win, return $40.20
Prob 42.0% | Place: 50.2% | Value: 1.12x
Why Genuine pace means you only need to be positioned right, and she's the one built to pick off tired speed.
2. Johnny Boz (No.6) — $6.45 / $2.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 0.99x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Sidenay (No.4) — $7.81 / $3.27
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.8% | Place: 21.7% | Value: 0.94x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Ocean Hero (No.8) — $9.43 / $3.81
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.6% | Place: 23.4% | Value: 1.38x
Why She's more "run-on" than "win on demand," so it's a lane-and-luck scenario if the tempo stings the field.

Race 3 – Maiden Magic at 1200 (Mdn Plate)

Race type: Maiden, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Ridgeback should be on pace early and keep working
Punty read: This is a classic maiden setup. When it's 1200m and the tempo is moderate, the winner is usually the one that can stay relaxed for the first half and then not panic when they get crowded. Ridgeback is the spear. Visors off first time and she's got early speed in the map, so if she gets clear running, she's the one most likely to break the maiden curse without drama. Manapouri's the danger with that "race within yourself" sort of profile, and Souline has the right tactical look too, especially if the leaders bunch up and a rail-saving run appears.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Ridgeback (No.2) — $2.80 / $1.60
Bet $15.00 Win, return $42.00
Prob 37.6% | Place: 67.8% | Value: 1.05x
Why On the speed, right kind of maiden pattern, and she should get first crack at the lead-up runners.
2. Manapouri (No.1) — $3.82 / $1.94
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.3% | Place: 54.9% | Value: 1.01x
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Souline (No.5) — $5.92 / $2.64
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.6% | Place: 36.8% | Value: 1.03x
Why Short field, two places, thin divvies — the pool stays on the two bets that earn it. He's on the watch list.

Roughie: Still Onit (No.3) — $17.24 / $6.41
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 12.2% | Value: 0.87x
Why Big price for a reason, but if the pace goes weird and the field scrambles, she can grab a slice.

Race 4 – Mendooran Cup Chaos (Bm66)

Race type: CHAOS_HANDICAP, 1200m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace, Glowing Rapids vs Toulon Factor leads, but the chaos is who gets clear
Punty read: This is a proper do-or-die 1200 where everyone wants to be on pace but nobody wants to be the first mug into a pocket of traffic. Mean Girls is the interesting one, she's got the place confidence and the profile that screams "sneak in on the right run" and keep going. Delrico has the value pop, and if he gets a clean run early, the late finish can be savage. Glowing Rapids is the obvious danger with his pace work, but at this distance the ones that get boxed can suddenly turn into spectators. It's the sort of race where you want to be brave, but only with the right kind of bravery.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Mean Girls (No.12) — $8.70 / $3.57
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), return $65.25 (wins) / $26.77 (places)
Prob 15.4% | Place: 56.5% | Value: 1.34x
Why Place is the mission, and her pattern looks tailor-made for a midfield run that turns into a late attack.
2. Glowing Rapids (No.5) — $7.41 / $3.14
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.0% | Place: 51.5% | Value: 0.96x
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. He's My Warrior (No.7) — $7.41 / $3.14
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.89x
Why He can run into it, but I'm respecting the fact the value is getting squeezed here.

Roughie: Delrico (No.4) — $11.63 / $4.54
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.7% | Place: 40.3% | Value: 1.12x
Why When the tempo is moderate, a horse with the right early positioning can pounce on weak seams, and Delrico looks like he'll get those seams.

Race 5 – 1000m Fire Drill (Bm50)

Race type: Bm50, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace, Pattera is the one that wants the engine running
Punty read: If you like sprint racing, this is your hit. The leaders are flying, and 1000m on a Good 3 means the first section is basically the whole race. Pattera is the main character here, right in the lead and getting every chance to keep kicking while others gas out. Mega Pixel is the next threat, and Swedish Glitter can run on with the tempo in her favour. The danger is you get a stupid early duel and the bloke from three off the fence takes over, so keep an eye on the mid-field runners that can slot in without getting shuffled.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Pattera (No.4) — $4.74 / $2.25
Bet $10.50 Win, return $49.77
Prob 25.5% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 1.21x
Why She's built for hot 1000m racing, and the pace profile sets her up to keep finding when the field stretches.
2. Mega Pixel (No.3) — $6.67 / $2.89
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.8% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.91x
Why A real chance — but at $2.89 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Swedish Glitter (No.6) — $7.58 / $3.19
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.3% | Place: 43.2% | Value: 0.90x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Samita (No.9) — $16.39 / $6.13
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 1.24x
Why Big price, but if the front end collapses late, she's one that can scrape into the placings with the right lane.

Race 6 – 1900m Slow Burn (Bm58)

Race type: Bm58, 1900m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace, Proclivity's got the best chance to time the run and strike late
Punty read: 1900m slow pace is where the race turns into a chess game and everyone forgets to check their king. Proclivity is the one I want because she's got that midfield rhythm and the kind of finish that can run through the pack when others are still trying to find momentum. Godwits is the value place lever, because slow tempo often gives you the perfect window to run on without needing to be first to do it. Vastly is a live danger too, and Bill Peyto is thereabouts if the race doesn't become too tactical.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Proclivity (No.3) — $3.09 / $1.70
Bet $10.50 Win, return $32.45
Prob 31.1% | Place: 69.0% | Value: 0.96x
Why Slow 1900 suits horses who can sit and then accelerate through the gap, and Proclivity looks like the timing horse.
2. Godwits (No.2) — $5.41 / $2.47
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.2% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 1.06x
Why A real chance — but at $2.47 the place he's not a saver, he's a punt, and that's not a price I insure at. Watching, not betting.
3. Vastly (No.4) — $7.52 / $3.17
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.9% | Place: 47.0% | Value: 0.97x
Why Third line of the market is where place bets go to die slowly — the ledger says so at every price. He carries the exotics and the watch list, not the bankroll.

Roughie: Aoife (No.7) — $10.99 / $4.33
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 29.0% | Value: 0.80x
Why Her place chance is there if the pack breaks late, and she's got enough dash to swipe a spot when the leaders tire.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Gear changes are doing the talking early
First-time blinkers for No.2 Surpasser in Race 1 and the big gear flips in Race 5 mean you should expect sharper starts and more decisive finishing pushes, especially if the drizzle stays away.

2 - Place dividends get weird at 1200m chaos
Race 4 is built for place chaos, that's why Delrico is the Roughie Place line. If the field bunches, the winner might miss the top end, but the placers will be everywhere.

3 - 1000m is speed, speed, speed
In Race 5, the map says hot pace and the horses that match it are the ones that get paid. If Pattera jumps in rhythm, everything else becomes survival mode.

SEQUENCE LANES

Quaddie (R3-R6)

Smart: 2,1,5 / 12,5,7,4 / 4,9,3 / 3,2,6,7 (144 combos x $0.24 = $35.00) -- 24% flexi
Punty's take: Two tighter legs, one open chaos leg in Race 4, and a medium open sprint leg in Race 5, this is entertainment with a backbone.

FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY

If the showers come in late and make the last 200m slippery-brave, that's when you back the horses that can already be in a good spot, not the ones relying on a prayer. Big 3 looks like the spine, Quaddie looks like the punishment, and we'll have a laugh either way.

Gamble Responsibly.
