Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Rockhampton, head to https://punty.ai/tips/rockhampton-2026-10-31
Rightio Degenerates, Rockhampton is run on a Soft 5 under overcast skies, 62mm has fallen in the last week, and the card is seven races from 1050m to 1400m. Grab a coffee, because this one has a few traps for the greedy and a couple of quiet sweet spots for the patient.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Rockhampton, 1050m to 1400m card
Rail: True (no rail position in the data, so I'm not guessing one)
Official going: Soft 5 (0.5mm last 24hrs, 62mm last 7 days)
Weather: Overcast, gusts 24.1km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 is a Genuine Pace with one leader. Races 2, 3, 4 and 6 are Moderate. Race 5 is the Hot Pace with four horses wanting the lead. Race 7 is a Slow Pace that should hand the sit to the back half.
Jockeys to follow:
Raul Silvera Olivera: rides Heroic Talent in Race 7 and Replace The Ace in Race 6, both live in the staked picks
Warwick Satherley: has Figo in Race 2, the top pick there, which has firmed from $3.60 to $3.00
Bailey Wheeler: has Hot Torque Invegas in Race 4 and Boom Crusher in Race 7, and his combo with Lachie Manzelmann is 1 from 1 on the card
Stables to respect:
Lachie Manzelmann (10 runners): Our Missile in Race 6, Hot Torque Invegas in Race 4 and Boom Crusher in Race 7, so he's got plenty of skin in the game
Ms G Bell (9 runners): Figo in Race 2, Agnar in Race 7 and Emerald Joy in Race 4
Kevin Miller (3 runners): Manoftheland in Race 4 is his best chance, with Woodstock Rock in Race 5 and Moonspell in Race 7 also running
Punty's take: This is a meeting of two halves. The early races look messy, with Race 1 the only one with a genuine leader on the map, and Race 2 and Race 3 a bunch of mid-pack runners with nobody willing to take the front. Then Race 5 turns into a proper brawl because four horses map to lead, and that's where the speed gets fought over at the top. Race 4 and Race 6 both look like they'll ask the back half to run them down, and that suits the closers who can see the line from the back. Race 7 is the slow-motion one. Someone has to go forward in a Slow Pace, and whoever settles the moment the field breathes out is going to get a very easy trip in a race that's already set up for the midfield.
Where the value sits is in the places the market is still making up its mind. Figo has backers piling in, but the shape in Race 2 is against it, so the price has to earn its keep. Our Missile and Heroic Talent both have good place numbers on the card, and they're the two I want to see get their chance in races where the pace is set up for the runners they are. Race 3 is the one that's making me sweat, because there's no price on the board yet, so I'm watching it and not betting it.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 1 with a win bet on Too Many Kisses, because it's the only horse in the field with a clean line to the top at a price that doesn't insult it. In Race 2, be patient. Figo is the bet, but that's a shape-against-it bet, so don't go in with a big bankroll on a runner who needs everything to fall his way. Race 5 is a chaos race, so protect your money there and let the each-way on Mississippi Morn do the heavy lifting.
Treat Race 4 and Race 6 as the banker-ish races, with Manoftheland and Our Missile the bets that get the most money from me. Race 7 is where I'd be most careful, because the slow pace is against the pick. The quaddie is open at the back end, so it's a wide ticket that can pay if the favourites don't all stand up together.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Heroic Talent (Race 7, No.4) — $3.20
Why Stepping up from a third and a second on soft in the last two starts, he's the sort of horse who gets his chance when the race is set up for a slow tempo, and the jockey and trainer combo has it working for him.
2 - Our Missile (Race 6, No.4) — $3.20
Why He comes from the back and the pace shape is built for that, with the early speed going to Entrepreneurial, Papasito and Replace The Ace in a moderate pace. Last start he ran third at Mackay over 1300m, and he's been running on at the finish all prep.
3 - Manoftheland (Race 4, No.1) — $4.00
Why He won at Twin Hills over 1100m last start and steps up in trip with Kevin Miller's stable in form. The shape is against him in a moderate tempo, so he has to find a way to hold his position, and I'm not pretending the pace is ideal.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 40.96 = $409.60
Race 1 – Regals Dental
Race type: Benchmark 60, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Cobbo the only horse who maps to lead, so he gets the front uncontested from barrier 5. Shipping Lane and Lunar Eight are the ones who'll try to pressure him, and Shipping Lane has to work from barrier 6 to get across. The sit goes to the midfield runners, and the shape helps Better Than Words more than anyone. Too Many Kisses sits midfield from barrier 1 and the shape suits it, so it gets a clean run without having to fight anything at the front.
Punty read: Too Many Kisses is the bet, and the reason is simple: it's a midfield horse from the rail in a race where the pace is on the back half, and the jockey and trainer have it at the right price. Cobbo is the danger from the lead, but he has to hold the pace all the way. Lunar Eight is the one I'd watch, because it's ON-PACE with good sectionals and it can take the place if the leader gets run down.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Too Many Kisses (No.7) — $4.00 / place tote
Bet $10.00 Win, return $40.00
Prob 23.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.93x Steady since tip
Why Gets the rail-side draw in a Genuine Pace race where the shape helps midfield runners. Soft record is 1 win from 5 and it's won its last start at Emerald over 1280m. The jockey and trainer combo has been working.
2. Lunar Eight (No.2) — $3.60 / $1.82
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.73x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Blue Allure (No.3) — $4.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.3% | Place: 33.2% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 2 with a 1-from-12 record at the distance. It's the one that gets home if the speed collapses, but the price is thin.
Roughie: Shipping Lane (No.5) — $4.40 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.4% | Place: 35.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why It's on the speed, and the blinkers come off first time with a compression hood on. If Cobbo gets run down, Shipping Lane has a path to the place money.
Race 2 – Capricorn Coast Sand & Soil Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1050m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with nobody mapping to lead, so the front will be a shared fight between Early Edition, Hot Luci, Kamala and Our Last Chance. Hot Luci has to work from barrier 10 to get across. Figo sits midfield from barrier 6, but the shape is against it in a race where the back half is the one getting the cover. Willbeking will need luck, drawn wide at barrier 8.
Punty read: Figo is my bet, and I'm not pretending the shape is perfect. Warwick Satherley rides, the trainer has runners in form, and the blinkers go on first time with the winkers off. That's a horse trying to get a fresh look at the race. Early Edition is the danger from the speed, and the market has been backing it. Sellorwyn is a maiden with no career starts on the record, so I'm not going near it at this stage.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Figo (No.2) — $3.00 / $1.50
Bet $15.00 Win, return $45.00
Prob 23.0% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Two seconds from four starts with the price shortening from $3.60 to $3.00. The shape is against it, but the blinkers change and the Satherley booking are the reasons it's the pick.
2. Sellorwyn (No.3) — $5.50 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.05 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Early Edition (No.1) — $7.50 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.00x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 7, with the market moving from $9.50 to $7.50. It has been running on at the finish, but it's a 0 from 12 career record.
Roughie: Our Last Chance (No.9) — $10.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.3% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 4, and it's been a closer at times. The tongue tie went back on, so there's something to watch if the speed in the race collapses.
Race 3 – NRG Industrial Plate
Race type: Class 4, 1050m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with no horse mapping to lead. Jimmyinthejungle (barrier 6) and August Joe (barrier 5) are the most likely to find the front, with Miss Moneypenny and Elronte pushing from barriers 4 and 3. Make It So is drawn wide at barrier 7 and has to find cover.
Punty read: No locked picks and no prices on the board yet, so I'm not backing anything in this race. Jimmyinthejungle and August Joe are the two I'll be watching at the first call, because they'll set the tempo. Miss Moneypenny has the best sectionals on the card, but the shape is against it. Make It So is the one from the back that could get a run if the pace holds.
Top 3 + Roughie ($0.00 pool)
No locked selections for this race. No prices are on the board yet, so there are no bets.
Race 4 – Coastal Concrete Hcp (50)
Race type: Restricted 50, 1050m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with nobody mapping to lead, so Proof Of Purchase (barrier 4), Spec Of Silver (barrier 2) and Hot Torque Invegas (barrier 6) will fight for the front. Hot Torque has to work wide to cross. Eminen and Emerald Joy are the ones the shape helps most, and Manoftheland settles midfield from barrier 3 in a shape that's against it.
Punty read: Manoftheland is the bet. He's the only one with a win over 1100m at Twin Hills last start, the trainer has a strong strike rate at the track, and the price has held up with plenty of value on the win and the place. The shape is against him, so he needs to find a trip. Hot Torque Invegas has the speed and the bigger record, so it's the danger in the front. Spec Of Silver is the one to watch if the front pair cancel each other out, with the market backing it from $7.00 to $5.50.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Manoftheland (No.1) — $4.20 / place tote
Bet $10.50 Win, return $44.10
Prob 24.6% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.03x Steady since tip
Why A good win at Twin Hills last start and a trainer who's been striking at Rockhampton. The shape is against him, but his trip is the reason I'm backing him.
2. Hot Torque Invegas (No.5) — $3.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.0% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Spec Of Silver (No.4) — $6.00 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.0% | Place: 34.2% | Value: 0.96x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 2 with the market moving from $7.00 to $5.50. It's a horse that places a lot, with three wins from 25 starts.
Roughie: Gigi Fille (No.6) — $9.50 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.9% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why It's a midfield horse that could sneak into the frame if the front pair go too hard. Its last-start excuses include interference, so there's a bounce-back angle if things run clean.
Race 5 – Railway Hotel Country Stampede Qualifier Quality Hcp
Race type: Open, 1050m
Map & tempo: Hot pace with four horses mapping to lead in Sunnycoast (barrier 9), Mississippi Morn (barrier 8), Gitalong (barrier 10) and Woodstock Rock (barrier 7). That's a proper fight, and the three forward runners on the outside all have to work to cross. The shape doesn't suit the midfield runners, so the trail and the sit goes to whoever can survive the first 400m.
Punty read: Mississippi Morn is the bet on the each-way, and it's a leader who has won three straight at Emerald over 1000m. The hot pace is against it, and I'm not pretending otherwise, but the class edge in the race is real. Woodstock Rock is the danger from the front, the favourite at $2.35 with a 1-from-5 record on soft. Sunnycoast is the one that can make it happen, and Gitalong is the roughie that can steal it if the front two kill each other.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Mississippi Morn (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.75
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $33.34 if it wins ($24.15 win + $9.19 place), $9.19 if it only places
Prob 21.1% | Place: 56.2% | Value: 0.97x Steady since tip
Why Four wins from four in class and three in a row over 1000m at Emerald. The hot pace is against it, but its class is the best in the race and it leads with plenty of experience on the card.
2. Woodstock Rock (No.6) — $2.35 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 61.5% | Value: 0.48x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Sunnycoast (No.2) — $6.50 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.7% | Place: 45.2% | Value: 1.09x Steady since tip
Why Third at Rockhampton last start over 1100m with a 3-from-9 record at the track. Visors go on again with the winkers off, and it's a horse that comes to the fight.
Roughie: Gitalong (No.5) — $11.00 / $2.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why It leads from barrier 10 and has run second and fourth in plenty of its starts. If Sunnycoast and Mississippi Morn burn each other off, a leader who can still see the line has a path.
Race 6 – GJ Gardner Yeppoon Cup Country Cups Challenge Qualifier Hcp
Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with Entrepreneurial (barrier 6), Papasito (barrier 7) and Replace The Ace (barrier 12) the likeliest to find the front. Replace The Ace is wide and has to work to cross. Our Missile settles back from barrier 8 and the shape helps it, with Bayerische, Sir Rocket and June also in the back half of the field.
Punty read: Our Missile is the bet, with a strong place record and a shape that suits the back. The one who can beat it is Red Hot Lizzie, who runs the same style from barrier 3 and has a Mackay win last start. Papasito is the one on the speed that can hold up if the early tempo stays soft. June is the roughie, with a big finishing kick if the pace is slow enough to keep the field together.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Our Missile (No.4) — $3.20 / $1.55
Bet $15.00 Win, return $48.00
Prob 27.4% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why A back-runner in a moderate pace that the shape favours, with a 2-from-6 record on soft and a 3-from-10 record over 1300m at Mackay last start. Amie Meissner rides.
2. Red Hot Lizzie (No.1) — $3.40 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.64x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.60 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Papasito (No.5) — $4.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why On the speed from barrier 7 with 3 wins from 4 on the first-up record. It's the one who can hold the front if the field is too slow to close.
Roughie: June (No.9) — $13.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.0% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.04x Steady since tip
Why It's midfield from barrier 11 with an outside draw that the shape doesn't punish. Its last start was a second at Emerald over 1850m, so the fitness is there if the race falls into its lap.
Race 7 – XXXX (Bm50)
Race type: Benchmark 50, 1400m
Map & tempo: Slow pace with A Tent Hut (barrier 8) and Pampuni (barrier 3) the likeliest to find the front. Agnar, Whatta Mission and Bottom Bar are the back-half runners the shape helps, with Agnar drawn wide at barrier 11. Heroic Talent sits midfield from barrier 4 and the slow pace is against it, so it has to find a way to get into the race.
Punty read: Heroic Talent is the pick, and I'm backing a horse that the shape doesn't suit because it's the best-performed horse on the card for placings. Its record on soft is 1 from 12 but it has finished in the top three at Emerald twice. Agnar is the danger from the back in a slow pace that helps closers. Boom Crusher is the one that has the best place numbers in the race, but it finished last at Mackay on its last start. A Tent Hut is the roughie, and the slow pace could hand it the front.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)
1. Heroic Talent (No.4) — $3.20 / $1.55
Bet $10.50 Win, return $33.60
Prob 27.6% | Place: 61.9% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Third at Emerald over 1200m last start and second at Emerald the start before, so the form is there. Raul Silvera Olivera rides and the shape is against it, but he's the most consistent placegetter in the field.
2. Agnar (No.2) — $4.80 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.95 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Boom Crusher (No.9) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.07x Steady since tip
Why Its record is 1 win and 11 seconds from 42 starts, and it's on a 3kg rise. Bailey Wheeler rides, and the Lachie Manzelmann combo is perfect on the card.
Roughie: A Tent Hut (No.1) — $10.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.6% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why It's on the speed from barrier 8, and in a slow pace the leader can run the race its way. It's 83 days off with no first-up wins from four, so the risk is real, but it's a roughie that can sit on the speed and see it out.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 5,4,1 / 6,3,2 / 4,5,1 / 4,2,9,1 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Race 4 and Race 6 are the most workable legs, with the top picks taking the tight end of the ticket. Race 5 is the wide-open leg with four runners, and Race 7 is the open slow-pace race that can throw up a surprise. The flexi is 32.4%, which is the minimum the ticket runs on, so it's a real play with a live payout if one roughie gets home. Short-priced winners rarely pay, so the longer-priced runners are what make this ticket worth a punt.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Shipping Lane's gear change
Blinkers come off first time and a compression hood with ear muffs goes on first time. It's a gear change to watch in Race 1, where Shipping Lane is the roughie.
2 - Figo's blinkers
Blinkers go on first time for Figo and the winkers come off first time. It has two seconds from four starts, so the change is the clue to watch in Race 2.
3 - Boom Crusher's seconds pile
One win and 11 seconds from 42 starts makes Boom Crusher the most consistent nearly-horse on the card. If it were a pub quiz question, it's the answer nobody gets right.
FINAL WORD FROM THE RATBAG REPORT
Race day is a marathon, not a sprint, so pace yourselves and keep your stake plan tight. The horses will do their thing, and my job is to tell you what I see and why. See you at the rail, you beautiful ratbags.
