Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Traralgon, head to https://punty.ai/tips/traralgon-2026-10-31
Rightio Form Freaks, Traralgon on a Good 4 with showers in the forecast and seven races from 1100m to 1900m, and the speed map on this card is a proper mixed bag. Two slow-paced maidens to open and close the early part, a couple of moderate tempo handicaps in the middle, then genuine pace in the back half where the front-runners are going to be ridden hard. Grab a coffee, this one's a long read.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Traralgon, 1100m to 1900m card
Rail: True Entire Circuit
Official going: Good 4 (nil rainfall in the last 24 hours, 36mm in the last 7 days)
Weather: Showers, live gusts 18.5km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 and Race 3 are slow on paper. Races 2, 4 and 5 are moderate. Races 6 and 7 are genuine, with a clear leader in each. Only Race 6 and Race 7 have a horse that the map puts out the front alone.
Jockeys to follow:
Joe Bowditch: seven rides today, including Epicus in Race 5, my each-way ride of the day, plus Blanche Bass in Race 4 and Kaddari in Race 6.
Teodore Nugent: seven rides, with Pinazaki in Race 1 and Preservator in Race 4 both in the top three, and he's flagged J-HOT with an 11.0% strike rate over his last 100 rides.
Adam Mc Cabe: seven rides, including Baldoni in Race 3, Frederick in Race 5 and Lulu Darling in Race 6, so he's in the thick of a few of the tighter finishes.
Stables to respect:
T Kilgower (7 runners): Epicus in Race 5 is the stable's staked runner, and they've got three in Race 4 plus Regal Visions in Race 6 and Kyokushin in Race 7.
Ms S Trolove (5 runners): Rock Glory is the only leader in Race 7, so the trainer's horse sets the tempo for that whole race.
Michael Huglin (4 runners): He's Fierce in Race 2, Baldoni in Race 3, Frederick in Race 5 and Lulu Darling in Race 6, with Lulu Darling's blinkers coming off again.
Punty's take: Traralgon's card is two different movies glued together. Races 1 and 3 are slow-pace maidens where the whole field tiptoes around waiting for someone to make a move, and the horse that finds the front and keeps its head is going to be hard to run down. Race 2 has a bunch of forward types with no outright leader, so it'll be a bit of a sprint scrum from the gates, and the Satoshi ride is the one I want to see go into it on a good draw. Races 4 and 5 are the ones where the sits-handy horses do the work, with Up And Under and Ze Bee Nine and Neck High all keen to be near the speed, and my money in Race 5 goes to the closer, not the front-runners. Race 6 is where the card gets nasty. She Nailed It has no company up front, so that race has a genuine tempo and the closers are going to be cheering for a fast pace to come home to. Race 7 is the same story at a shorter trip, with Rock Glory the lone leader and a whole pack of pressure coming on from behind.
What it means for you: Be aggressive early in Race 1 and Race 3, because the two most-punted maidens on the card are being spread across short-priced runners and the value sits in the places you can get without taking a bath. Race 2 is the one to protect your money on, because the price is open and the shape is a tangle. Race 4 and Race 5 are the chaos races where the sit-handy types should get a run, and Race 6 is a game of who gets the trail behind She Nailed It. The locked bets are the plan: Pinazaki and Girl With A Pearl on the win in the first and third, Satoshi in the second, Up And Under in the fourth, Epicus each way in the fifth, Ocean's Jen each way in the sixth and Beau Strada in the seventh.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Pinazaki (Race 1, No.10) — $2.20
Why The Slow Pace race has no outright leader, and Pinazaki's last start was a 0.1L second at Avoca, the sharpest finish on the card in this grade. The middle draw is the knock, but the two excuses are real: interference at Cranbourne and a slow start at Echuca.
2 - Girl With A Pearl (Race 3, No.11) — $2.25
Why Blinkers go on for the first time and the last start was a 0.5L second at Warrnambool over 1700m, so she's not going to be a dud in a slow race. The shape works against her from barrier 13, and no rider is listed in the race table yet, so check that before you jump.
3 - Beau Strada (Race 7, No.8) — $3.40
Why Sits handy behind Rock Glory in a genuine pace and the map factor helps him, with barrier 3 giving him a clean run to the speed. He's the one I trust to be in the finish in a race where the closers have a lot of ground to make up.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 16.83 = $168.30
Race 1 – Latrobe City Council Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1430m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on paper and nobody maps to lead, so the front is up for grabs from barrier 7 where Castelli In Aria is the likeliest to take it up. Castelli In Aria sits handy, so if it's allowed to dictate the tempo it gets the run it wants, and Pinazaki settles midfield from barrier 8 with the shape against it. Barossa Bourbon from barrier 12, Laundering from barrier 10 and Mo from barrier 13 all need the speed to collapse and a bit of luck to get a run.
Punty read: Pinazaki is the one I'm putting money on at $2.20, because the last-start second at Avoca is the best recent finishing line in the race and the bad runs had reasons attached. Castelli In Aria is the danger, sitting handy in a slow race with the best sectional line in the field, and the Carleen Hefel combo is strong at this track. Expanding Power from the back in a slow race is the one I'd rather not be on. Our Brud is the roughie with no runs on the record.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Pinazaki (No.10) — $2.25 / $1.20
Bet $13.00 Win, return $29.25
Prob 32.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Beaten only 0.1L at Avoca, the best finishing line on the card for a runner in this grade. Middle of the field from barrier 8 is the knock, but the Cranbourne interference and the Echuca slow start both have reasons attached.
2. Castelli In Aria (No.5) — $2.60 / $1.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 30.6% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.25 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Expanding Power (No.6) — $5.00 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 59.1% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 1 in a slow race is the issue, but the Cranbourne and Sale excuses were held up and raced wide, so a clean run would change the picture.
Roughie: Our Brud (No.9) — $11.00 / $2.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.1% | Place: 27.8% | Value: 0.56x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers and tongue tie both go on first time, and Dylan Dunn is flagged J-HOT with a 12.0% strike rate over his last 100 rides. There are no runs on the record, so it's a blank page at $11.00 and a fair roughie.
Race 2 – Morwell Bowling Club Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace on paper with no outright leader, so Dun Gracefully from barrier 16 has to work hard to cross, while Prestige Hellbent from barrier 4, Satoshi from barrier 7, Jupiter's Girl from barrier 6 and Inner Thoughts from barrier 2 all fight for the front. Satoshi sits handy and the shape helps it, and the back-half runners He's Fierce, Johnny Tightlips and Zouie need cover that a moderate tempo may not give them.
Punty read: Satoshi is the bet at $3.50 because the map sends it to the speed and the shape helps it, with barrier 7 giving it a clean spot behind the fight at the front. The Destroyer is the danger with a fast closing sectional and a last start at Ballarat, and Prestige Hellbent is the one to watch because the Dylan Dunn combo is flagged strong. Blue Parrot is the roughie, a midfielder needing a clean run and a bit of luck after the bumped and hampered excuses.
Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)
1. Satoshi (No.10) — $3.50 / $1.62
Bet $10.00 Win, return $35.00
Prob 17.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.61x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 7 in a race that rewards the speed, and the Moe second at 0.8L last start is the freshest line in the field. Had interference at Cranbourne, which is an excuse rather than a flaw.
2. The Destroyer (No.12) — $4.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Prestige Hellbent (No.9) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.5% | Place: 39.0% | Value: 0.53x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 4 and the Dylan Dunn combo with this trainer is 7 wins from 25 rides together. The last start was a 3rd at Hamilton with a 3.2L margin, so he's a real danger if the front pair go too hard.
Roughie: Blue Parrot (No.3) — $10.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.2% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.62x Steady since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 8 means he needs the leaders to tire and a clear run, and the last two runs were bumped and hampered at Moe and Bairnsdale, so there's a case if the trip goes his way.
Race 3 – Win Television Gippsland Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1900m
Map & tempo: Slow pace and Shuwaib from barrier 9 is the likeliest to find the front, so it should be a crawl to the turn with the closers forced to wait. Girl With A Pearl settles midfield from barrier 13 and the shape is against her, while Top Liner, Amsterdam Nights, Girl With A Pearl and Maharani Miss all draw wide and need cover to get into it.
Punty read: Girl With A Pearl is the bet at $2.25 because the last start was a 0.5L second at Warrnambool over 1700m and the blinkers are on for the first time, which often sharpens a horse in a slow maiden. The shape is against her, but the wide draws for the closers are a bigger problem than a midfield spot. Top Liner is the danger from the back with sectional form that suits a slow race, and Shuwaib sits handy and is the one most likely to make it a sprint. Baldoni is the roughie with interference excuses at Moe and Bairnsdale.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Girl With A Pearl (No.11) — $2.30 / $1.30
Bet $15.00 Win, return $34.50
Prob 32.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers go on for the first time and the last start was a 2nd at Warrnambool, with the time sectional ranking second. No rider is listed yet, which is the one thing to check before jumps.
2. Top Liner (No.9) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.92x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.40 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Shuwaib (No.4) — $6.50 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.76x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 9 and is the most likely to lead in a slow race, with a Moe 4th last start over 1600m with a 1.8L margin. A good pace setter in a race that might not be wanted.
Roughie: Baldoni (No.1) — $12.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.67x Steady since tip
Why Interference cost him at Moe and at Bairnsdale, and the 1900m trip plus a slow tempo could set him up if he gets a clear run from midfield.
Race 4 – Crown Hotel Traralgon Hcp (56)
Race type: Restricted 56, 1900m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with plenty of forward types, and Up And Under from barrier 6 is the one the map sends to the speed and the shape helps it. Tassadar, Blanche Bass, Avonview and Preservator all want to sit handy, so it'll be a jostle, and Spirit Angel and Redwood Shadow are back in the field needing the pace to fall apart.
Punty read: Up And Under is the bet at $4.00 because it sits handy with the shape helping it, and the Yarra Glen second at 0.8L last start is the best recent form on the page. The weight line is a caution: 1 win from 3 at 54 to 58kg against 0 from 7 at heavier. Preservator is the danger from barrier 1 on the speed, and Mannerheim is the other one to respect from midfield.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Up And Under (No.4) — $4.00 / $1.75
Bet $6.50 Win, return $26.00
Prob 17.0% | Place: 45.7% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 6 with the shape in its favour, and the Yarra Glen second at 0.8L is the freshest run on the page. The weight record says it's better at lighter weights, so keep an eye on the handicap.
2. Mannerheim (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.85
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.2% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.58x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.85 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Preservator (No.13) — $7.50 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.95x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 1 and the speed is his to lose. The Moe 6th last start is the one blemish, and the Teodore Nugent ride is flagged J-HOT over his last 100 rides.
Roughie: Blanche Bass (No.8) — $12.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.3% | Place: 24.8% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Won its last start at Mornington 2450m by 0.8L, a nice rise up the trip, and Shea Eden's stable is flagged T-HOT over the last 100 rides. The price is generous for a runner that won last start.
Race 5 – Traralgon Cup November 29 Hcp (56)
Race type: Restricted 56, 1430m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace with a crowd of forward types, and Ze Bee Nine and Neck High are both advantaged by the expected pace and sit handy. It's Gnarly from barrier 12 and Nikephoros from barrier 13 have to work hard to cross, and Epicus from barrier 6 sits back, with the shape helping it. The closers are the ones who'll get the run home if the front pair go too hard early.
Punty read: Epicus is the each-way bet at $6.50 because it's a closer in a race that's set up for the back of the field to finish strong, and the Alexandra win last start is the best finishing form in the race. The weight line says it's 14kg lighter than last start, which is a lot of relief. Headstock is the danger with a Mornington 8th last start and a bunch of excuses. It's Gnarly is the one to watch from a wide draw.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.00 pool)
1. Epicus (No.10) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet $7.00 Each Way ($3.50W + $3.50P), collects $31.15 if it wins ($22.75 win + $8.40 place), $8.40 if it only places
Prob 11.9% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.77x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 6 with the shape helping it, and the last start was an Alexandra win over 1300m. The sectionals are the fastest on the card for last 600 and last 400, and it's 14kg lighter than its last start.
2. Headstock (No.2) — $6.00 / $2.25
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.3% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.68x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. It's Gnarly (No.4) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.1% | Place: 35.2% | Value: 0.46x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 12 and has to work hard to cross, so the trip is the test. Bendigo 4th last start at 1.8L is the best recent form, and the weight record is 0 from 3 at 61 to 62kg.
Roughie: Mont Saint Michel (No.5) — $9.00 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.71x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 14 with an L400 sectional ranking second on the card and the Moe 3rd last start at 1.9L. The shape is against it, so it's a stretch that needs the front to fall in a moderate pace.
Race 6 – TRFM Hcp (56)
Race type: Restricted 56, 1430m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with She Nailed It as the only leader from barrier 9, so it'll be uncontested on the map. So You Excel from barrier 14, Trinity's D'oro from barrier 3 and Satin Image from barrier 12 are the nearest pressure, and that's where the front runners get tested. The closers are the ones who'll want the pace to hold up, and Ocean's Jen sits midfield from barrier 2 with the shape against it.
Punty read: Ocean's Jen is the each-way bet at $5.00 because the class is there (seven wins from 40 starts), the Good record is 6 wins from 28, and the Aaron Sweeney and Andrew Perdon combo is 6 wins from 30 rides together. The shape is against it, so I'm backing the horse's record over the map. Alpinova from the back is the danger with two seconds at its last two starts. Tarakash is the value runner at $8.00 from midfield.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Ocean's Jen (No.4) — $6.00 / $2.00
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P), collects $30.00 if it wins ($22.50 win + $7.50 place), $7.50 if it only places
Prob 14.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.88x Steady since tip
Why Seven wins from 40 starts and six from 28 on Good. The Moe 7th last start is the bad run, with the held up excuse attached, and the shape is against it, so the trip has to be fair.
2. Alpinova (No.9) — $4.20 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 42.5% | Value: 0.54x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Tarakash (No.7) — $8.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.7% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.94x Steady since tip
Why Midfield from barrier 7 and a 5th at Kilmore last start with a 4.8L margin. The Good record is 2 wins from 17 and the 2nd-up record is 1 win and 2 seconds from 5 starts, which is a horse that goes well when it's fresh.
Roughie: Kulina (No.12) — $14.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.69x Steady since tip
Why Nine wins from 35 starts on Good, with a fastest time sectional and a trainer strike rate at this track flagged well above the field. The price is a fair roughie if the front pair cook each other.
Race 7 – Bet365 Same Race Multi Hcp (56)
Race type: Restricted 56, 1100m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace with Rock Glory the lone leader from barrier 10, and nearest pressure from Bleak Mid Winter, Irresistible Sir, Beau Strada, Kyokushin, Diamond Mila and Oriental Dane. Beau Strada sits handy from barrier 3 and the shape helps it, which makes it the cleanest line behind the front. The back-half runners, O'mosa and Moonlight Rustler, need a fast pace and a clear run to get home.
Punty read: Beau Strada is the bet at $3.40 because it's sitting handy in a genuine pace and the map factor helps it, and the Echuca 11th last start is a poor run that doesn't reflect the Good record. Unriddle is the danger from midfield, with a Pakenham 4th last start and a 1st-up profile that's been solid. O'mosa is the one to watch from back, and Bleak Mid Winter is the roughie with a 1000m trip record that's been placed.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Beau Strada (No.8) — $3.60 / $1.60
Bet $7.50 Win, return $27.00
Prob 18.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.65x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 3 with the shape in its favour, and the trainer's stable has a tangible T-COLD line that's simply a sign of a quiet patch. The Echuca 11th last start is the blemish, but the Good record is 1 win and 4 placings from 6 starts.
2. Unriddle (No.1) — $4.80 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.84x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.90 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. O'mosa (No.3) — $8.50 / $2.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Back of the field from barrier 12 and comes off 113 days, with a 1st-up record of 3 starts and one third. The sectionals are the fastest on the card for last 400 and the shape is against it, so it's a closer that needs a real pace.
Roughie: Bleak Mid Winter (No.2) — $9.00 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 10.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.90x Steady since tip
Why Sits handy from barrier 4 and has a 1 win and 1 second record at the 1100m trip. A bumped and hampered and slow start excuse at Moe is the reason it's off the top three, and the weight record is the warning.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4-R7)
Smart: 2,4,13,8 / 2,10,4,5 / 4,9,7,1 / 8,1,2,3 (256 combos x $0.3125 = $80.00) -- 31.2% flexi
Punty's take: Every leg is open, so this is a wide ticket with no banker to hang on, and that's why it's a $80 punt. Risk is high, and the $5 to $10 winner in one of these legs is what pays the ticket, so it's a flexi for the fun of it and not a fortress.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Blinkers on first time
Girl With A Pearl (No.11) gets blinkers on for the first time in Race 3, and the Warrnambool second at 1700m last start came without them. Watch the market as well.
2 - Market backing for Chronic
Chronic (No.3) in Race 1 has been backed from $8.50 to $29.00 and is flagged heavy. Two excuse runs, wide at Bairnsdale and held up at Sale, and blinkers on again give the money a story, but it's not a horse I'm putting my own cash on.
3 - A blank page with a tongue tie
Our Brud, the Race 1 roughie, has no runs on the record but gets blinkers and a tongue tie on for the first time. It's the cheapest mystery on the card, and a fair one to watch if you like a gamble with a bit of colour.
PUNTY'S PULPIT
Right, that's my lot for Traralgon. Get your tickets in early, back the locked bets, and if a roughie comes home, buy the mate who gave you the tip a schooner.
