Rightio Sickos, Albury is on a Good 4 with the rail true and a grey, breezy afternoon on the cards, so the speed map is going to do most of the talking. Three slow-pace opening races, a hot pace in the fourth and seventh, and a card full of maidens and benchmarks that will have punters crying into their Kingstons by the last. Let's get into it.

MEET SNAPSHOT

Track: Albury, 900m to 2000m card
Rail: True (no rail position noted in the data)
Official going: Good 4 (Rainfall: Nil)
Weather: Overcast, gusts 16.7km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Races 1, 2 and 3 are slow-pace affairs. Race 4 is a hot pace with three leaders in Tosen Fury, Carlow Rose and Red Mink. Race 5 is genuine with Idol Eyes the only leader on the map. Race 6 is moderate with Frosted In Time and The Shyster both on the lead. Race 7 is hot with Calais Bliss, Patrika Express and Jenni Divine all listed as leaders.
Jockeys to follow:
Blaike Mc Dougall: 7 rides today, including Bennelong Time in Race 3 and Elastane Miss in Race 7.
Pierre Boudvillain: 7 rides today, with Miss Defy, Kasuma Goddess, Tassy Fox and Slater's Boy among them. His strike rate at this track is 14.3% (240/1678) on the Miss Defy line.
Josh Richards: 6 rides today, including Calais Bliss in Race 7 and The Major in Race 5. Calais Bliss shows his track strike rate at 9.1% (325/3563).
Stables to respect:
Michael Travers (6 runners): Teresprit in Race 6 and Jenni Divine in Race 7 are two of the six, and the stable has enough runners to matter in the sprint and the maidens.
C D Widdison (5 runners): News Scoop in Race 4 is the one I'd be watching most closely, and Justenuffsplash in Race 6 is the other big-name runner in the stable's line-up.
Shilleagh Meyervale (5 runners): Distant Stripes in Race 3, Mer Char in Race 6 and Dita Von in Race 7 make up a spread across three races.

Punty's take: The speed is at the front in the bigger fields, which tells you where the chaos is. Races 4 and 7 both have a hot tempo on the map, and the three-leader set-up in Race 4 means the stalkers get a run if the leaders go too hard. Race 6 looks like a classic Class 3 mess with two leaders in Frosted In Time and The Shyster and a lot of backmarkers at long prices. Race 1 is slow and has no leader in the data, so the pace shape there rewards whoever can settle close enough and get the run on. Race 2 and 3 are the slow-pace bankers, but the market has already done some of the work with short prices.

Race 4 is where the money is going to be made or lost. Three leaders on a 900m trip and a News Scoop stalker coming off the back of a third at Albury on 10 October is a set-up I like a lot. Race 6 is the chaos one, and that's why I'm keeping the staking light on the Each Way and leaving the rest of the card alone. Stables to watch are Widdison and Meyervale, both with five runners and both spread across the card.

What it means for you: Be aggressive in Race 4 with the single win stake on News Scoop. The first two races are slow, so I'm not reaching for them. Race 6 is the wild card, and the Each Way on Frosted In Time is the protective play rather than the aggressive one. Race 7 is hot and wide with a lot of leaders, so the quaddie is where the risk sits and where the upside lives too. Keep your bank calm and let the sequence do the heavy lifting if you're in it.

PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI

These are the three bets the day leans on.

1 - Snap Decision (Race 2, No.6) — $2.00
Why Short, I know, but the form at the trip is good and he's got a strong jockey-trainer combo to back it up. He's the one I'd least like to be talked out of.
2 - Frosted In Time (Race 6, No.2) — $2.90
Why Time fastest over the last start and the market has firmed him from $3.40 to $2.90, so the money is coming. He's on the lead in a moderate-pace race with a live leader beside him, which keeps the price honest.
3 - Fair Master (Race 1, No.2) — $2.20
Why Second at Albury on 10 October, first at Wagga on 19 September, and the only runner in Race 1 with a strong Good record. Slow pace is a concern, but he's the horse on the card with the cleanest recent form.

Multi (all three to win): $10 × 12.76 = $127.60

Race 1 – Stewart Gould Real Estate

Race type: Benchmark 66, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map, with Justifiably disadvantaged on the pace factor. Fair Master is BACKMARKER, Super Paradise is MIDFIELD, Justifiably is MIDFIELD, Miss Defy is MIDFIELD, and Dandruff is BACKMARKER. No runner is listed as LEADER, so no one has the lead on the data.
Punty read: Fair Master is my only staked runner in this race, with a $10.50 win stake. He's won at Wagga over 1600m and placed at Albury last start, and the form line is the best on the card for a Good 4 track. The slow tempo is the worry because he sits back, but the rest of the field doesn't look like it wants to make the running either. Justifiably is the danger, a midfield runner who has been running on at Wagga over 2000m and is the most dangerous one if the pace stays slow. Super Paradise is the one to watch with the blinkers back on and the tongue control bit fitted first time.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Fair Master (No.2) — $2.35 / place tote
Bet $10.50 Win, return $24.68
Prob 32.4% | Place: 66.2% | Value: 0.76x ▲11% since tip
Why Best record on the Good track and a sharp run at Albury last start. Trainer Doug Gorrel and jockey Cory Parish are a combo I'm comfortable with, and the form line from Wagga is the strongest in this field.
2. Justifiably (No.7) — $4.40 / $2.15
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 53.4% | Value: 0.79x ▲5% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.15 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Super Paradise (No.3) — $5.50 / place tote
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on again, tongue control bit on first time, and a Josh Richards ride from a barrier 2 draw. He's a watch-only runner on the strength of the gear change.
Roughie: Miss Defy (No.9) — $10.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.68x ▲10% since tip
Why Pierre Boudvillain rides and the jockey strike rate at this track is solid. If the leaders go slow and the closers get a run, she's the one who can run into the place money late on.

Race 2 – Meredith Joinery

Race type: Benchmark 66, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow pace on the map. Southern Dancer and Star Blazer are both ON-PACE. Snap Decision, Gold Tracker and Kasuma Goddess are all BACKMARKER. No LEADER in the field.
Punty read: Snap Decision is the staked horse in this race, $12.60 on the win. He's a backmarker in a field without a leader, which tells you the pace is on the slow side and the closer has to be willing to do the work. His last start was a third at Nowra over 1600m and he's been well placed in recent runs. He's 0 from 2 at 60 to 62kg in the data, which is a warning sign, but the trainer-jockey combo is 23% (85/370) and Nick Heywood knows how to ride him. Southern Dancer is the one with the best chance of making the running and getting a sit off the speed, and Kasuma Goddess is the one who won at Albury 1400m last start and has the jockey strike rate to match.

Top 3 + Roughie ($12.60 pool)

1. Snap Decision (No.6) — $2.10 / $1.25
Bet $12.60 Win, return $26.46
Prob 39.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x ▲7% since tip
Why He's the form horse in the field, a backmarker who runs on late, and the trainer-jockey combo is the best in the race. The price is short, but the chance is real enough to back him on the win.
2. Southern Dancer (No.3) — $2.70 / $1.52
Bet Tracked
Prob 28.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.76x ▲7% since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Kasuma Goddess (No.8) — $4.40 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.87x ▲2% since tip
Why Won at Albury 1400m last start and has sectionals to match. Pierre Boudvillain is aboard and the trainer is Heath Maclean. She's a watch-only runner here.
Roughie: Star Blazer (No.2) — $11.00 / $3.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.6% | Place: 17.8% | Value: 0.72x ▼23% since tip
Why Eight kilos up on his last start, which is a real question, but Brittany Button rides and he's ON-PACE from barrier 6. If the speed collapses at the front, he can slip into the place money.

Race 3 – Dasher + Co Country Boosted Mdn Hcp

Race type: Maiden, 1500m
Map & tempo: Slow pace, with My Boy Crippa disadvantaged on the pace factor. Bennelong Time is ON-PACE. Tarakan Lad is BACKMARKER. The rest of the field is MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Bennelong Time is the staked horse here, $10.00 on the win. He's the only ON-PACE runner in the race and barrier 1 gives him the inside run into the first turn. Mc Dougall rides and the market has moved him from $3.00 to $2.40, which says money is coming. The danger is Tassy Fox, a MIDFIELD runner who is a strong place chance in the data and whose sectionals are the fastest at the distance. Distant Stripes is the one who may get a run late if the pace is slow, and the warning on his weight should be noted.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.00 pool)

1. Bennelong Time (No.1) — $2.45 / $1.25
Bet $10.00 Win, return $24.50
Prob 23.5% | Place: 62.7% | Value: 0.58x ▲4% since tip
Why Barrier 1 and ON-PACE in a slow-paced maiden. Market support is heavy and Blaike Mc Dougall gets a good trip on him.
2. Tassy Fox (No.9) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 1.14x Steady since tip
Why A real chance — but at $2.00 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Distant Stripes (No.5) — $5.50 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.82x ▼13% since tip
Why Strong sectional times and the place record is good, but the weight warning at 58 to 59kg is a real concern. He's an unbacked runner for me here.
Roughie: Conargo (No.4) — $12.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 28.0% | Value: 0.80x Steady since tip
Why Bumped and hampered at Albury last start, which is the excuse you want to see. Dale Cole rides and he's been finishing close. If the leader sets a slow pace and the field bunches, he's the one with the closing ground.

Race 4 – Allure Lash & Beauty Bar Mdn Plate

Race type: Maiden, 900m
Map & tempo: Hot pace on the map. Tosen Fury, Carlow Rose and Red Mink are the three LEADERS. News Scoop and Rubbadubdub are ON-PACE. Burn For You is ON-PACE too. Kutina Bay, Oriane and Bringbackthebiff are UNKNOWN, so I'm claiming no position for those.
Punty read: News Scoop is the staked runner here, $15.00 on the win, and he's the one I like most on the card. He's ON-PACE from barrier 7, which puts him one-out from the leaders, and the fast tempo should set up a stalker. He was third at Albury 900m on 10 October and Cory Parish is running hot with 15.0% over his last 100 rides. Carlow Rose and Tosen Fury are the two LEADER runners who will set this race up, and the danger is that the pace is hotter than either of them can sustain. Red Mink is the third leader who has been tongue tied and crossed-over nose band first time, so I'm watching him.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. News Scoop (No.5) — $3.30 / $1.52
Bet $15.00 Win, return $49.50
Prob 28.8% | Place: 58.7% | Value: 0.95x ▲12% since tip
Why Stalks the hot pace from one-out with a sharp recent run and the track sectional at the fastest on the list. The jockey is running hot and this is exactly the set-up he likes.
2. Carlow Rose (No.3) — $4.80 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.4% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.74x ▼12% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Tosen Fury (No.2) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.2% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.78x Steady since tip
Why Leader from barrier 5 with the fastest time in the race on the sectionals. Blaike Mc Dougall rides, but she has no wins from four starts, so I'm not backing him.
Roughie: Oriane (No.6) — $12.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 28.3% | Value: 0.94x ▲58% since tip
Why Ella Bent rides and the price is the value play in a race with a lot of pace. If the leaders go flat out and the closers get home, she's the one who could sneak into the place money.

Race 5 – Christmas Race Day Packages On Sale Mdn Hcp

Race type: Maiden, 1175m
Map & tempo: Genuine pace on the map with Idol Eyes the only LEADER. Brucedale, The Major, Slater's Boy and Coco Mojo are ON-PACE. Bar La La, Bleue Dragon, Boots Malone, Pacific Sushi, Cookardinia Miss and Pipoli Diva are BACKMARKER or MIDFIELD. Tungamah Tess is UNKNOWN, so I'm not placing her on the map.
Punty read: Tungamah Tess is the staked runner, $15.00 on the win. She won at Wangaratta 900m last start, and Jake Duffy rides for a trainer with 16% recent strikes in the data. Her map is unknown so I can't say where she settles, and that's the reason I'm watching the first two closely. The Major is the one with the ON-PACE tag and a solid Albury run last start. Bar La La is disadvantaged on the pace factor and has been running on, so he's the danger if the tempo lifts. Brucedale is the other ON-PACE horse who can run close.

Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)

1. Tungamah Tess (No.14) — $2.50 / $1.25
Bet $15.00 Win, return $37.50
Prob 23.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.60x ▼10% since tip
Why Won her last start at Wangaratta 900m and is the most likely winner on the numbers. Jake Duffy rides and the trainer is in good recent form.
2. The Major (No.4) — $3.60 / $1.57
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.82x
Why A real chance — but at $1.57 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Bar La La (No.9) — $5.50 / $1.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.5% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.07x ▼24% since tip
Why Gear changes all round with lugging bit, tongue tie and winkers all off first time. Cory Parish is running hot and the sectionals are fastest for the last 400m. He's on my watch list because the pace is against him on the map.
Roughie: Slater's Boy (No.3) — $13.00 / $3.30
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.87x ▼38% since tip
Why Ridden by Pierre Boudvillain from ON-PACE. He ran on at Canberra 1300m last start, and if the race is run hard up front he's the one who can pick up the pieces.

Race 6 – MLM Electrical Contractors Hcp (C3)

Race type: Class 3, 1175m
Map & tempo: Moderate pace on the map. Frosted In Time and The Shyster are both LEADER. Justenuffsplash, Willingham, Sir Basil and Strategic Defense are ON-PACE. Most of the rest are MIDFIELD or BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Frosted In Time is the staked runner here, $10.50 each way. He's a LEADER from barrier 3 and the time sectional is fastest on the list. The market has firmed him from $3.40 to $2.90, so the money is coming. The Shyster is the other LEADER and he's the danger, a horse that has been winning at Albury and whose market has collapsed from $2.00 to $1.37. Justenuffsplash is first-up after 61 days and has a 2:0-0-1 first-up record, so he's a watch-only horse, with Coco De Luxe and Willingham at bigger prices.

Top 3 + Roughie ($10.50 pool)

1. Frosted In Time (No.2) — $2.90 / $1.32
Bet $10.50 Each Way ($5.25W + $5.25P), collects $22.16 if it wins ($15.23 win + $6.93 place), $6.93 if it only places
Prob 35.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.01x Steady since tip
Why Leads from barrier 3 with the fastest sectional, the market is firming and Cory Parish is running hot. He's a sound each-way proposition in a race with a lot of pace in the wings.
2. The Shyster (No.3) — $1.65 / $1.07
Bet Tracked
Prob 22.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.38x ▲39% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Justenuffsplash (No.4) — $16.00 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 1.15x Steady since tip
Why First-up after 61 days, with a 2:0-0-1 first-up record and a track record of 3 wins from 9 starts. Quayde Krogh rides from barrier 1. He's on the watch list.
Roughie: Coco De Luxe (No.6) — $17.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.9% | Place: 37.9% | Value: 1.34x ▼12% since tip
Why MIDFIELD runner with a Good 4 record of 2 wins from 5 starts. Jake Duffy rides and the market has drifted from $14.00 to $17.00. If the leaders get tired late, he's the one closing into the place money.

Race 7 – Habitat Planning Country Boosted Hcp (C1)

Race type: Class 1, 1000m
Map & tempo: Hot pace on the map. Calais Bliss, Patrika Express and Jenni Divine are all LEADERS. Elastane Miss, Texas Open, Babushka's Pride, Alice Alice and Noteabeel are ON-PACE. Iroquai is BACKMARKER. Winter Hail and Dita Von are MIDFIELD.
Punty read: Patrika Express is the staked runner, $8.50 on the win, and she's a LEADER from barrier 12 that the market has backed in from $2.15. Her last start was a second at Orange 1000m and she won at Dubbo 1000m before that. The danger is Calais Bliss, a LEADER who is trained by Maddison Collins with Josh Richards riding, and the hot pace could turn this into a leader's nightmare. Elastane Miss is the closer who has run hard at Wagga and has the sectionals at the fastest end of the field. Winter Hail gets blinkers on first time and is one to watch if the leaders fade.

Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)

1. Patrika Express (No.4) — $2.15 / $1.25
Bet $8.50 Win, return $18.28
Prob 24.8% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.53x ▼7% since tip
Why LEADER from barrier 12 with a win at Dubbo 1000m and a second at Orange last start. The trainer is in good form at this track, and he's the most likely to dictate the run.
2. Elastane Miss (No.1) — $4.40 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.3% | Place: 56.8% | Value: 0.89x ▼9% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Winter Hail (No.3) — $6.50 / $2.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 14.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.92x
Why Blinkers ON first time and winkers OFF first time, and Cory Parish is running hot. He's a MIDFIELD runner with two good sectionals at the back end of the race.
Roughie: Babushka's Pride (No.7) — $21.00 / $3.90
Bet Tracked
Prob 5.6% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 1.18x ▲6% since tip
Why 144 days off, with a first-up record of 3 starts and no wins. Emma Ly rides from barrier 9 in an ON-PACE role. If the three leaders go flat out, he's the stalker with a chance to run into the money late.

SEQUENCE LANES

QUADDIE (R4–R7)

Smart: 5,3,2,6 / 14,4,9 / 2,3,6 / 4,1,3 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Race 5 and Race 6 are the tighter legs, with Tungamah Tess and Frosted In Time carrying most of the weight. Race 4 and Race 7 are wide open with four runners each, so this is where the cost goes. The flexi sits above the 30% floor, and this is a solid play if you want the hot-pace races covered, but a quaddie only pays well with a $5 to $10 winner somewhere in the sequence.

NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK

1 - Blinkers go on first time
Winter Hail (Race 7, No.3) gets blinkers ON first time and winkers OFF first time. He's been a MIDFIELD runner with the back-end sectionals, so the gear change is the one to watch once the leaders start to fade.

2 - Cory Parish is running hot
Cory Parish has 5 rides today and his last 100 rides show 15.0% at the track, on the strength of the J-HOT tag. He's aboard News Scoop in Race 4, Frosted In Time in Race 6, Bar La La in Race 5 and Winter Hail in Race 7.

3 - Two leaders, one pace fight
Frosted In Time and The Shyster both settle on the lead in Race 6. If the moderate tempo turns into a battle, I'll be watching who blinks first and whether the closers can grab them late.

FINAL WORD FROM PUNTY'S PULPIT

Keep the stakes honest and the bankroll safe, and if the hot pace turns Race 4 into a stalker's dream, I'll be the one yelling for News Scoop with my tea going cold. Let the form do the talking and don't chase a bad run.
