Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Randwick, head to https://punty.ai/tips/randwick-2026-10-24
Rightio Degenerates, Randwick on a Good 4 with the rail at +6m Entire and a card running 1000m to 2000m, and there's a bit of pace in this meeting for once. Ten races, one ticket per sequence, and plenty of short-priced heavyweights standing between you and a decent pay-out. Grab a coffee, don't grab a second beer until race 4.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Randwick, 1000m to 2000m card
Rail: +6m Entire
Official going: Good 4 (4.7mm last 24hrs, 6mm last 7 days)
Weather: Overcast. 0.2mm rain since 9am, 0.2mm last hour, gusts 29.6km/h
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 is Genuine Pace with Chasing Archer on the lead. Race 2 is Moderate Pace. Race 3 is Hot Pace with three leaders (Monte Veebee, Let's Go Again, Smoke 'n' Darts). Race 4 is Genuine Pace with Our Emperor on the lead. Races 5, 6 and 7 are Slow Pace. Races 8, 9 and 10 are Moderate Pace, with Perfumist and Asgarda the two leaders in race 8 and Major Beel and Thrice the two in race 10.
Jockeys to follow:
Tommy Berry: rides Macho in race 1, our top pick there. Macho's jockey strike rate at this track is 14.9% (1245/8354), and the Tommy Berry and Macho combo is 23.9% (64/268).
Zac Lloyd: rides Linebacker in race 9, one of the day's heaviest stakes. Linebacker's jockey strike rate at this track is 16.8% (593/3539), L100 25%.
Jason Collett: rides Ciaron's Star in race 4, our Big 3 horse. His strike rate at this track is 13.3% (1197/9006), and he has ten rides on the card.
Stables to respect:
C J Waller (17 runners): the biggest operation on the card, with Lazzura in race 8 and Lindermann in race 6 among our picks.
C Maher (5 runners): Ciaron's Star is our Big 3 horse in race 4, and the stable has five runners on the day.
Michael Freedman (4 runners): Macho is our race 1 top pick and carries a trainer strike rate at this track of 18.4% (317/1721).
Punty's take: Randwick today is a tale of two halves. The first four races have real speed in them, with Chasing Archer ready to go forward in the 1000m and the pace in the 1200m race three being as hot as they come. Our Emperor takes the lead in race four, but Ciaron's Star will be the one the punters chase, and that's the horse I'm building the afternoon around. The back half is a different beast. Races five, six and seven are Slow Pace, which means the horses that can sit and sprint off the speed will get their chance, and the favourites in those races are the ones to respect until they prove otherwise. Race seven is the stand-out banker race, with Global Goal priced at $3.00 and the pace setting up for backmarkers. Race nine is the one I'd circle as the potential chaos race, with Evaporate and Linebacker both on the speed and nothing in the field carrying a dominant claim. Race three is the bloodbath, with a Hot Pace and a field of 20 horses.
What it means for you: Be aggressive on the Big 3 spine, which has Ciaron's Star, Global Goal and Why So Hard. Those three are the ones I'd be happy putting the bulk of the money on. Protect the early races by sticking to the each way on Macho in race one and the Olympian each way in race two, because both are the kind of horses that can get home without needing the perfect run. Race three is where I'd keep the stakes small, given it's the only race with a Hot Pace. Race nine is where the value sits if the pace collapses, and race ten is the one where Estadio Mestalla at a short price is the sensible play. The quaddies are the entertainment, but the Smart ticket is where the money is, so don't go overboard on the Big 6 unless you want to play it for the fun of it.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Ciaron's Star (Race 4, No.5) — $2.90
Why The most likely winner on the card at 35.1%, with a Good 4 record of 1 win from 5 on Good and a 1st last start at Warwick Farm 821m, and he's been firming from $3.10 to $2.90. Jason Collett rides, and that's a horse who can sit in the lead group and finish it off.
2 - Global Goal (Race 7, No.8) — $3.00
Why Global Goal has won two of his last three starts, including a Randwick 1600m win last start, and the Slow Pace in this race suits a horse that can settle and sprint late. Scarole and Proxima Dea are the danger in the race, but Global Goal is the one I'd bet.
3 - Why So Hard (Race 5, No.4) — $3.05
Why Why So Hard is the 33.0% shot in a Slow Pace race, and he's firmed from $3.60 to $3.05 with heavy money. Last start 3rd at Rosehill 1200m, and he's the one most likely to be the fulcrum of the race if the pace stays slow.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 26.53 = $265.30
Race 1 – Arrowfield Kirkham Plate
Race type: Open, 1000m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Chasing Archer (No.1) is the only runner with a map position, LEADER on speed rank 1. The rest of the field shows UNKNOWN on the map, so I'm claiming no positions for them.
Punty read: Macho (No.5) is the bet, and the reason is the gear. Blindfold, blinkers and a cross-over nose band all go on for the first time, which is a big change and I'll respect the trainer's call on it. He ran 2nd at Rosehill 900m last start, and that's a horse coming in with a bit of form behind him. Tommy Berry has a 14.9% strike rate at this track, and the combo is 23.9% from 64 rides. Chasing Archer will lead at the speed, and Macho only needs to be close enough on the day. The danger is Royal Accord, who has won both his last two starts at Warwick Farm and Rosehill, and Rosarito, who won at Warwick Farm last start and has the ear muffs on for the first time. Exo Velocity is the roughie with the sectional line that says his finishing sprint is quick, but his price asks a lot.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Macho (No.5) — $4.60 / $1.70
Bet ⊘ Scratched · bet voided
Prob 19.6% | Place: 53.4% | Value: 0.90x
Why Three gear changes first time out is a lot of noise, but it's the kind of change that can wake a horse up. Tommy Berry knows the track and Macho's last start was good enough to sit in the mix.
2. Rosarito (No.13) — $8.50 / $2.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.8% | Place: 34.3% | Value: 1.34x ▼24% since tip
Why He makes my shortlist, not my betting slip. Tracked — if he salutes, we'll wear it and the record shows it.
3. Royal Accord (No.6) — $2.75 / $1.32
Bet Tracked
Prob 15.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.43x ▼16% since tip
Why Two wins from two in his extended form, both at sprint trips, and the market has backed him in heavily from $4.60 to $2.75. He's one to watch, not one I'm backing.
Roughie: Exo Velocity (No.11) — $18.00 / $3.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.4% | Place: 20.7% | Value: 0.78x ▼6% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $3.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
Race 2 – TAB Highway Hcp (C3)
Race type: Class 3, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Pace advantaged: Bluish Hue, Roses Imminente and Fashion Spree. Bluish Hue (No.4) and Roses Imminente (No.15) are both BACKMARKER, and Fashion Spree is MIDFIELD. Olympian (No.2) and Think Like Paddy (No.1) are both MIDFIELD. Brutal Eyes and Spread The Love are ON-PACE and both carry a disadvantage on the pace line.
Punty read: Olympian (No.2) is the bet because he sits in the mix at the right spot and has the best place and win numbers in the race. He ran 3rd at Newcastle 1300m last start, and his trainer P Messara and L Gavranich run a stable with a 28.1% strike rate at this track. Olympian's Good 4 record is 1 win from 4 with 1 third. Bluish Hue is the one I'd fear most from the back, because the pace line gives him a real advantage and he ran a 2nd at Ipswich last start. Ocean Tsunami is the other one, but he was bumped and hampered last start. Think Like Paddy is a roughie who has been hampered in each of his last two runs, so the excuse is there.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Olympian (No.2) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet $13.00 Each Way ($6.50W + $6.50P), collects $48.75 if it wins ($35.75 win + $13.00 place), $13.00 if it only places
Prob 22.2% | Place: 62.2% | Value: 1.22x ▲10% since tip
Why Solid place claims, and Shannen Llewellyn has the ride. He's the one who can run into a place even when the race doesn't go his way.
2. Bluish Hue (No.4) — $2.80 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.0% | Place: 62.8% | Value: 0.56x ▼2% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Ocean Tsunami (No.7) — $3.40 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.47x ▲3% since tip
Why His last run was a 5th at Rosehill 1500m where he was bumped and hampered, so a clean trip is worth a lot here.
Roughie: Think Like Paddy (No.1) — $19.00 / $4.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 4.9% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.93x ▼11% since tip
Why Two hampered runs at Eagle Farm are the excuse, and he's a clean-trip horse. If he gets through the field late he's a real story.
Race 3 – Midway (Bm72)
Race type: Benchmark 72, 1200m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. Leaders are Monte Veebee (No.6), Let's Go Again (No.10) and Smoke 'n' Darts (No.12), all LEADER. Maidoff (No.5) and Better Late (No.9) are ON-PACE. Lawless Lucy (No.14), Peleus (No.11) and Hellova Nature (No.1) are MIDFIELD. Master Yoda is the one with the pace advantage.
Punty read: Maidoff (No.5) is the bet because the hot pace sets up a horse that can sit just behind the leaders. He's 2kg lighter than last start, and his extended form has two wins from his last two runs, at Illawarra Grange 1300m and 1200m. Jason Collett is not on him, Nash Rawiller is. He's been backed in from $8.40 to $6.40 heavy, so it's not a surprise to see him priced up. The danger is Better Late, who has the record of a horse that can win at this distance, and Lawless Lucy at $4.00. The leaders are going to be hot, so I'd expect the early speed to melt and the back-markers to get involved.
Top 3 + Roughie ($6.50 pool)
1. Maidoff (No.5) — $6.40 / $2.25
Bet $6.50 Each Way ($3.25W + $3.25P), collects $28.11 if it wins ($20.80 win + $7.31 place), $7.31 if it only places
Prob 13.5% | Place: 33.4% | Value: 0.86x ▼8% since tip
Why Sits on the speed in a hot race, and Nash Rawiller has the ride. The 2kg drop in weight and recent wins at Illawarra Grange are what I like.
2. Better Late (No.9) — $8.50 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 1.02x ▲6% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Lawless Lucy (No.14) — $4.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.37x ▲8% since tip
Why Jason Collett rides, and she's come into the race on a sharp 4kg drop in weight. Her Newcastle 1250m win last start is the kind of form that makes her a live chance.
Roughie: Peleus (No.11) — $11.00 / $3.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.5% | Place: 24.2% | Value: 0.72x ▲5% since tip
Why Two wins from his last three starts with a 3kg drop, and the hot pace could bring him into a placing if the race blows up.
Race 4 – Alm On-Premise Brian Crowley Stakes
Race type: Open, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Our Emperor (No.3) is the only LEADER and carries the pace advantage. Crescent King (No.1), Punxsutawney Phil (No.2) and Revolina (No.8) are all ON-PACE. Ciaron's Star (No.5) is MIDFIELD and Ciaron's Star has the advantage on the pace line at 1.12.
Punty read: Ciaron's Star (No.5) is the bet, and I'm putting the win stake on him for good reason. He's 35.1% in my numbers, which is the highest of anyone in the race, and his Good 4 record is 1 win from 5 with the sectionals showing the fastest last 600m and last 400m. Jason Collett rides, and he's been firming from $3.10 to $2.90. The danger is Crescent King, who has won three of his last four and is 4kg lighter, and Punxsutawney Phil, who has won all three of his starts. Both of them are on the speed, so the race will be fought out among them. Revolina is the roughie who gets a bit of pace help, but the field is only seven runners.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. Ciaron's Star (No.5) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet $15.00 Win, return $43.50
Prob 35.1% | Place: 53.6% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Strong line of sectional speed, a last start win at Warwick Farm 821m, and a trainer C Maher with a hot run going.
2. Crescent King (No.1) — $3.35 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 26.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.88x ▲3% since tip
Why Only two places paid in a field this size, and skinny place divvies make savers a mug's game — this is a win-only race. Tracked, not staked.
3. Punxsutawney Phil (No.2) — $5.10 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.01x ▲5% since tip
Why Three wins from three starts and 4kg down. He's the one who could be a dangerous outsider if the front pair cancel each other out.
Roughie: Revolina (No.8) — $10.50 / $3.40
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.2% | Place: 22.3% | Value: 0.75x Steady since tip
Why Ear muffs on for the first time and a win at Hawkesbury 1000m last start. He's a roughie who could get a run off the speed if things go to plan.
Race 5 – Myplates Callander-Presnell
Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Omolong (No.5), Why So Hard (No.4) and Gridlock (No.7) are BACKMARKER. Central Europe (No.2), Lafite (No.6) and Revengeance (No.3) are MIDFIELD. Memorise (No.9) is ON-PACE. Omolong carries the pace advantage on the line.
Punty read: Why So Hard (No.4) is the bet because the slow pace favours a horse that can settle at the back and run down the leaders. He's 33.0% in my numbers and has the best place chance at 70.0%. Last start 3rd at Rosehill 1200m and 2nd at Rosehill 900m before that, so he's coming in on a good run. The market backed him from $3.60 to $3.05 heavy. Central Europe is the danger who's the fastest over the last 600m, and Lafite has blinkers on for the first time. The sprinter who could cause a shock is Revengeance, who was raced wide last start.
Top 3 + Roughie ($13.00 pool)
1. Why So Hard (No.4) — $3.05 / $1.32
Bet $13.00 Win, return $39.65
Prob 33.0% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.01x ▲4% since tip
Why Back on the speed-friendly trip in a slow race, and the market has been moving his way. He's the one who will be the cleanest on the run home.
2. Central Europe (No.2) — $4.40 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.5% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x ▼7% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.62 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Lafite (No.6) — $7.60 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why Blinkers on for the first time and a 3rd at Rosehill 1400m last start. He's one who can run into the placings if the pace is slow.
Roughie: Revengeance (No.3) — $9.60 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.4% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.81x ▲12% since tip
Why Raced wide last start and held up in the run before, so he's a horse waiting for a clean trip. Tim Clark rides, and a true run could see him sneak into the top four.
Race 6 – Asahi Super Dry Craven Plate
Race type: Open, 1800m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Lindermann (No.1) and Eliyass (No.3) are ON-PACE. Tom Kitten (No.2) and Vivy Air (No.7) are BACKMARKER. Plymouth (No.5) and Portland (No.6) are MIDFIELD. Portland and Vivy Air carry the pace advantage on the line.
Punty read: Tom Kitten (No.2) is the bet because he's the one who's been hampered in his last two runs at Caulfield and is priced at $3.55. He's got a 24% L100 strike rate at this track on the trainer side and a Good 24 record of 6 wins. Last start 3rd at Randwick 1600m, so the run is good enough and the next one can be better. Lindermann is the danger, and he's the one who has the sharpest sectionals line on the card with his last 600m ranking second. Plymouth at 9kg above his last start is the one I'd watch. Eliyass has his lugging bit on for the first time. Vivy Air has the ear muffs off, which is a move worth noting.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Tom Kitten (No.2) — $3.55 / $1.35
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P), collects $18.37 if it wins ($13.31 win + $5.06 place), $5.06 if it only places
Prob 30.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.10x Steady since tip
Why Two excuses from his last two runs, bumped and held up, and a 3rd at Randwick 1600m. Kerrin Mc Evoy rides and this horse is at the right price for a sensible each way.
2. Lindermann (No.1) — $2.50 / $1.14
Bet Tracked
Prob 29.7% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.74x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Plymouth (No.5) — $9.20 / $1.95
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.26x ▲14% since tip
Why 9kg up from last start, which is a big ask, but he's coming in with a 4th at Randwick 1600m that wasn't a bad run.
Roughie: Eliyass (No.3) — $9.00 / $2.05
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.2% | Place: 38.8% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Lugging bit on for the first time and a 3rd at Rosehill 1900m last start. He's a roughie who can run into a place if the leaders get tired.
Race 7 – Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes
Race type: Open, 2000m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. Global Goal (No.8), Diameter (No.1), Mindgames (No.7) and Stormy Marco (No.5) are BACKMARKER. Proxima Dea (No.9) is ON-PACE. Scarole (No.3) and Cormier (No.2) are MIDFIELD. Global Goal, Proxima Dea and Scarole are the three the pace line favours.
Punty read: Global Goal (No.8) is the bet and it's the banker of the afternoon. He's 33.9% in my numbers and the best place chance in the race at 70.0%. The market has him at $3.00, which is a short price, but he's the most likely winner in the race and the pace suits him. He's won at Randwick 1600m last start, which is the kind of form that makes him hard to beat. Proxima Dea is the danger on the speed, and he's won all four of his starts. Scarole has the cross-over nose band on for the first time, and he's the one who needs watching. Cormier was raced wide last start, which is an excuse, and a clean trip could make him dangerous at a bigger price.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Global Goal (No.8) — $3.00 / $1.40
Bet $7.50 Win, return $22.50
Prob 33.9% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.02x Steady since tip
Why Won at Randwick 1600m last start and has the sectionals fastest in the field. He's the one who can sit in the race and sprint home.
2. Proxima Dea (No.9) — $5.50 / $1.80
Bet Tracked
Prob 19.4% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.07x ▼8% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.80 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Scarole (No.3) — $8.80 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.9% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 1.14x ▲31% since tip
Why Cross-over nose band on for the first time, and a 3rd at Rosehill 1800m last start. He's a horse who can run a good race from the middle of the field.
Roughie: Cormier (No.2) — $10.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.7% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.77x ▲5% since tip
Why Raced wide at Rosehill 1800m last start and a slow start at Rosehill 1400m before that. Jason Collett's jockey strike rate isn't his to worry about, that's Aaron Bullock on him, and a clean trip could put him into the frame at a long price.
Race 8 – The Invitation
Race type: Open, 1400m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Perfumist (No.10) and Asgarda (No.13) are the two LEADERS. Idle Flyer (No.2), Gerringong (No.9), Stylish (No.6) and Tuileries (No.8) are ON-PACE. Lazzura (No.1), Verona Rose (No.3), Arabian Rose (No.11) and Super Smink (No.4) are MIDFIELD. Arabian Rose and Miss Freelove have the pace advantage.
Punty read: Lazzura (No.1) is the bet because he's the strongest chance in the race at 33.0% and he's sitting in the midfield where he can see everything. He's won 5 from 16 on Good and has the sectionals fastest last 600m. He ran 6th at Rosehill 900m last start, but that was a 3.6L beating and he's been a consistent horse. Tommy Berry rides, and he's been trained by C J Waller, who has the biggest team on the card. Gerringong is the danger on the speed, and he's been firming from $4.50 to $4.00 with a Doomben 1000m win and Rosehill 1200m win in his last two starts. Idle Flyer's ear muffs were taken off, and he's drifted from $6.50 to $8.00.

Roughie: Perfumist (No.10) — $10.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 8.7% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.87x Steady since tip
Why He's the leader in the field with the pace advantage, and a 1st at Newcastle 1400m last start. If Asgarda goes quick, he can get the job done up front.
Race 9 – Five Diamonds Prelude
Race type: Open, 1500m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Cristal Clear (No.3) and Imperialist (No.6) carry the pace advantage. Linebacker (No.1), Evaporate (No.2), Cristal Clear (No.3), Athanatos (No.5) and Imperialist (No.6) are all ON-PACE. Declichy Boulevard (No.12), Welcometotheshow (No.7) and Brave One (No.8) are MIDFIELD. Just Party (No.11) is BACKMARKER.
Punty read: Linebacker (No.1) is the bet because the sectionals show his last 600m and last 400m are both the fastest in the field. He's 28.8% in my numbers, and his last start was a 3rd at Rosehill 1400m. Zac Lloyd rides, and that combination has a 22.1% strike rate from 43 rides. The danger is Evaporate, who is also on the speed and has the fastest time on the sectional line. Declichy Boulevard has been backed from $4.80 to $3.60 heavy, and Welcometotheshow is the one who has the ability to run home fast.

Why Backed in heavy from $4.80 to $3.60, and a 1st at Randwick 1600m in his earlier run. He's a horse who needs the race to go his way.

Why Raced wide at Rosehill 1400m last start and a 1st at Rosehill 900m before that. If the speed collapses at the front, he's a good each way prospect at the price.
Race 10 – Robrick Lodge Filante Hcp
Race type: Open, 1600m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. Major Beel (No.4) and Thrice (No.11) are the LEADERS. Robusto (No.2), Anthracite (No.9) and Anythink Goes (No.10) are ON-PACE. Estadio Mestalla (No.1), Osipenko (No.3), Lord Penman (No.5) and Zuleika (No.8) are MIDFIELD. Encap (No.6) is BACKMARKER. Estadio Mestalla carries the pace advantage on the line.
Punty read: Estadio Mestalla (No.1) is the bet because he has the best place chance at 61.9% and he's the one who has been running well on the day. His last start was a 2nd at Rosehill 1400m, and he's won 8 from 42 with a 3 wins from 10 record at 1600m or near it. Nash Rawiller rides, and that's a good combination. Anthracite is the danger because he's just won at Rosehill 2000m and drifted from $3.80 to $4.70. Robusto was held up, bumped and hampered in his last start at Rosehill 1400m, so the excuse is there for a bounce back.

Why 2nd at Rosehill 1400m last start and a strong win and place record over this trip. He's the one who gives the bet the best chance of getting home.

Why Jason Collett rides and the horse is in the midfield, so a clean trip could bring him into the finish at a price that pays.
SEQUENCE LANES
EARLY QUADDIE (R3–R6)
Smart: 9,5,14,11 / 5,1,2 / 4,2,6,5 / 1,2 (96 combos x $0.3646 = $35.00) -- 36.5% flexi
Punty's take: Race three is the wide leg with five runners and it's the most open race in the sequence, while race four is tight on Ciaron's Star and Crescent King and race five is tight on the favourites. Race six is the only two-runner leg. The flexi is 38.9%, which means a solid play if the first leg gets the pace race right, but the risk sits in race three.
QUADDIE (R7–R10)
Smart: 8,9,5 / 1,9,2,10 / 1,2,12 / 1,9,2 (108 combos x $0.3241 = $35.00) -- 32.4% flexi
Punty's take: Race seven is the banker leg with three runners, and race eight and nine are the open legs with four runners each. Race ten is two runners. The flexi is 36.5%, and a quaddie needs a $5 to $10 winner somewhere to pay well, so look at which horses at the bigger end can get through.
BIG 6 (R5–R10)
Smart: 4,2,6,5,3 / 1,2,5,3 / 8,9,5,3 / 1,9,2 / 1,2,12,7 / 1,9,2,5 (3840 combos x $0.001302 = $5.00) -- 0.13% flexi
Punty's take: Every leg is four runners, so this is a long shot that only pays if all six favourites and close picks come through. The flexi is 0.12% and the outlay is only $5, so this is an entertainment-only ticket for the fun of it, not a serious play.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Three changes on one horse
Macho goes into race one with blindfold, blinkers and a cross-over nose band all on for the first time. Watch the market and the first two, because that's a lot of gear to read at once.
2 - The 61-day spell
Guy's Last Prize (No.6) in race two is first-up off 61 days with a 1st-up record of 2 starts, 1 win. He's a horse to note in the Hcp, but he's priced at $41.00 and not in my picks.
3 - Gelded, not a gear change
Thrice (No.11) in race ten is listed as gelded, which the data calls "not gear". It's a fun one for the trivia night, but it doesn't change his chance at all.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Ten races, one spine, and a Big 3 that's built on horses who've done the work. If the first four go to plan you'll be sitting pretty, and if they don't, the quaddies are still there to drive you mad. Good luck, you beautiful bastards, and bet like you've got a mortgage to pay.
