Punty's Early Mail
For all of Punty's tips for Toowoomba, head to https://punty.ai/tips/toowoomba-2026-10-24
Rightio Ticket Munchers, Toowoomba is a Heavy 8 with 28mm in the last 24 hours and 92mm over the week, so the track is wet, the rain is still falling, and nobody should be pretending the form book reads the same as a dry day. Seven races, 75 runners, and a card that runs from 870m sprints to a 1900m staying test in race 7.
MEET SNAPSHOT
Track: Toowoomba, 870m to 1900m card
Rail: 1.5 metre Entire Course
Official going: Heavy 8 (28mm last 24hrs, 92mm last 7 days)
Weather: Raining. 0.6mm rain since 9am, gusts 25.9km/h. Rain risk 65%+ chance at 01:00, 04:00, 07:00, 10:00, 13:00
Early lane guess: unknown pre-race, watch the first two
Tempo profile: Race 1 is Genuine Pace with Ambassadors the only LEADER on the map. Races 2, 3, 4 and 5 are Moderate Pace. Race 6 is Hot Pace with five LEADERs in the field. Race 7 is Slow Pace.
Jockeys to follow:
Kenji Yoshida: Six rides, the joint most on the card, including Bews in race 4 and Mishpat in race 5.
Leslie Tilley: Six rides, including Kirksville in race 6 and Mean Mahal in race 5, plus Lady Willpower in race 1.
Anthony Allen: Five rides, headlined by Kingsland in race 1 and Coney Island Baby in race 7.
Stables to respect:
Kristie Clark-Peoples (8 runners): The biggest stable on the card, with Troy Boy and Silk Sonic among the eight.
Corey & Kylie Geran (6 runners): Rare Moon in race 1 is the roughie, and Flirting With Fire and Strike Me Pink carry the name into the back half of the card.
Nick Keal (5 runners): Abraham and Sir Goldalot both run in race 7 for the stable, and Abraham is our race 7 bet.
Punty's take: Toowoomba in the wet is a place where the speed matters more than people want to admit. Race 1 has one proper LEADER on the map, Ambassadors, with a field of mostly midfielders sitting behind him, so the pace will be honest but not frantic. Race 2 is a Moderate Pace race with The Deputy on the back and nobody on the lead, which makes it a tactical puzzle more than a sprint. Race 3 is the chaos race of the day, with Spoilt Rotten and Star Of Ascot both on the speed and a maiden field that has been shuffled by bumps and interference in the runs behind. Race 4 is a clear-ish Moderate race with American Conquest on the back and Perle De Chocolat on the speed.
Race 5 is the banker race, with Mean Mahal at $2.10 and Over The Limit the other leader in a field where the pace is sorted before the turn. Race 6 is the mad one. Five LEADERs in a Hot Pace sprint over 870m means someone is going to be cooked early, and I'd rather be on the one who can sit closer to it than the one who has to go the whole way. Race 7 is the Slow Pace staying test over 1900m, and it is where Abraham and Sir Goldalot have the cleanest path on the card if the front-runners don't dictate.
What it means for you: Be aggressive in race 5 and race 4, because those are the two races where the market and the map are telling a similar story. Protect yourself in race 3 and race 6 by keeping the bets small and the tickets wide. The quaddie is built around race 4 to race 7 and it is a tight ticket on the front end and a loose one on the back end. Race 1 and race 2 are not heaps of value, so keep the staking modest and let the Big 3 do the heavy lifting. The Big 3 is three horses from three different races, so one bad race does not kill the whole thing, but it does mean the multi is a long shot to land.
PUNTY'S BIG 3 + MULTI
These are the three bets the day leans on.
1 - Astapor (Race 4, No.1) — $3.60
Why Win 30.1% in my book is the top number on the card, Good 13:2-2-1 on record, and he ran second at Dalby 800m last start. Olivia Kendal rides him for R T Hay.
2 - Mean Mahal (Race 5, No.1) — $2.10
Why Won at Dalby 800m last start, bandages on the front for the first time, and money has come in from $2.80 to $2.10. Leslie Tilley rides and Pat W Webster trains.
3 - Kingsland (Race 1, No.3) — $3.40
Why Firmed from $4.20 to $3.40, Good 12:2-2-3, and he has been placed in his last two starts including a second at Toowoomba. Anthony Allen rides.
Multi (all three to win): $10 × 25.70 = $257.00
Race 1 – For The Equine Athlete
Race type: Benchmark 60, 1200m
Map & tempo: Genuine Pace. Ambassadors is the LEADER on the map. ON-PACE: Smart Recognition, Everywhere, Lady Willpower, Einstag, Rare Moon. MIDFIELD: Heroic Chief, Maurice's Medad, Kingsland, Uluwatu, Apollo Moon, Bleriot. BACKMARKER: Lightly Sparkled.
Punty read: Kingsland is the bet. He's the shortest-priced runner with a real place record, Good 12:2-2-3 and Track 9:2-1-3, and the market has come to him from $4.20. He's MIDFIELD on the map, so he's not the one setting the speed, but a Genuine Pace with an ON-PACE group on his tail means he has the room to sit and pounce. Lady Willpower is the danger at $2.80, a horse on the speed with a Good 5:2-1-1 record and Pat W Webster doing well at the track. Uluwatu at $7.00 has run into interference and a bump in his last two, so he is one to watch rather than one to back. Ambassadors on the lead has bandages and winkers coming off, and that could make him a proper front-runner again, but he's the one who has to lead a Genuine pace race so I'd rather not be on him.
Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)
1. Kingsland (No.3) — $3.40 / $1.60
Bet $4.50 Each Way ($2.25W + $2.25P), collects $11.25 if it wins ($7.65 win + $3.60 place), $3.60 if it only places
Prob 25.4% | Place: 59.2% | Value: 0.86x Steady since tip
Why Firmed in the market, placed in his last two runs, and comes from a mid-pack spot where he can sit and pick them up.
2. Lady Willpower (No.9) — $2.90 / $1.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 21.3% | Place: 54.0% | Value: 0.62x ▼2% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Uluwatu (No.4) — $7.50 / $2.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.0% | Place: 38.9% | Value: 0.82x Steady since tip
Why Sophie Potter has a 16.8% strike rate at Toowoomba and he's been unlucky in his last two starts with interference and a bump. Worth watching.
Roughie: Rare Moon (No.13) — $12.00 / $3.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.3% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.76x ▼17% since tip
Why ON-PACE, Heavy 3:0-0-1 and both sectional lines are fastest on his last start. If the speed collapses early he can run on late from the ON-PACE group.
Race 2 – Focus HR
Race type: Benchmark 70, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. No LEADER on the map. BACKMARKER: The Deputy. ON-PACE: New Joy, Kadall, Command Approved, Azuki. MIDFIELD: Under The Cap, Celestial Harbour, Connecticut, Mishani Prince, Cracker Essgee.
Punty read: The Deputy is the bet. Track 17:6-5-3 and Dist 19:7-7-2 are the kind of record you don't get by accident, and he is the one horse in the race who has been winning from the back in a Moderate race. The worry is the 6kg rise from his last start, and his last two were a bump and a hold-up, so this is a real test. Mishani Prince at $5.50 has the MIDFIELD spot and a pace factor that suits him, and his place line is strong. Azuki at $4.20 is ON-PACE but the map says the pace is against him, so he's a danger with a question mark. Command Approved is the roughie with heavy and Good form behind him, but a 0/6 weight line at 58-60kg is an honest warning.
Top 3 + Roughie ($15.00 pool)
1. The Deputy (No.1) — $4.60 / $1.80
Bet $15.00 Each Way ($7.50W + $7.50P), collects $48.00 if it wins ($34.50 win + $13.50 place), $13.50 if it only places
Prob 24.8% | Place: 51.1% | Value: 1.14x ▼9% since tip
Why Track 17:6-5-3 and Dist 19:7-7-2 are the best credentials in the race, and the market is still giving him enough room.
2. Mishani Prince (No.7) — $6.00 / $2.10
Bet Tracked
Prob 17.7% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 1.06x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Azuki (No.10) — $4.20 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.1% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.68x ▲10% since tip
Why Good 16:4-2-4 is a real record, but he's ON-PACE in a race the map puts against him, so he's the one to watch.
Roughie: Command Approved (No.8) — $11.00 / $3.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.4% | Place: 24.4% | Value: 0.71x ▼23% since tip
Why Karl Zechner rides a horse with Heavy 4:2-0-1 on his card. If the front-runners go hard he can sit handy and run on.
Race 3 – Empire Of Japan Standing At Hopetoun Farm Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 1300m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. ON-PACE: Chop Chop Go, Spoilt Rotten, Star Of Ascot, Freeman Fury. BACKMARKER: Cheekosway, Dune Shift, Staffo. MIDFIELD: Cellito Sands, Onlyyoucanread, Testy Nic, Strike Me Pink, Painted Wings. UNKNOWN: Narrow Openings, Our Jandy, Born To Race.
Punty read: Spoilt Rotten is the bet, and I'm backing him for the place as much as the win. He has 0 wins from 16 starts but has been five times second, he's ON-PACE, and he's been running second and fifth in his last three starts including a second at Gatton. The 3kg rise is a sticking point but the speed in this race is not going to be cutthroat. Star Of Ascot is the other on the speed and he won't be far away, a second at Toowoomba last start with a 0-2-1 record here. Cellito Sands at $8.00 has Nasal strip ON for the first time and Anthony Allen's strike rate with him is climbing. The roughie is Narrow Openings with no map position, so he is a true unknown. Nothing in the data tells me how he runs, but at $9.00 he is cheap enough to be a bit of fun.
Top 3 + Roughie ($8.50 pool)
1. Spoilt Rotten (No.7) — $4.60 / $1.90
Bet $8.50 Each Way ($4.25W + $4.25P), collects $27.63 if it wins ($19.55 win + $8.08 place), $8.08 if it only places
Prob 18.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.86x ▲20% since tip
Why Five seconds from 16 starts, ON-PACE in a Moderate race, and the most consistent form on the card that has not won yet.
2. Star Of Ascot (No.8) — $5.50 / $2.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 13.9% | Place: 45.5% | Value: 0.76x ▲10% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Cellito Sands (No.1) — $8.50 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 12.0% | Place: 36.4% | Value: 1.02x ▼6% since tip
Why Nasal strip ON for the first time and a last-start sectional fastest in L600. Anthony Allen is hot on him.
Roughie: Narrow Openings (No.5) — $9.50 / $3.00
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.1% | Place: 24.1% | Value: 0.58x ▲11% since tip
Why Map unknown, so the path is that the speed sorts itself out and he finds a gap. Cheap and unknown, the ultimate roughie.
Race 4 – K & R Plumbing Hcp
Race type: Class 4, 1100m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. BACKMARKER: Bews, American Conquest. MIDFIELD: Astapor, She Conquers, Vesper Lynd. ON-PACE: Perle De Chocolat, Final Voyage, Torvecchio.
Punty read: Astapor is the bet, and he's the top of my Big 3. He has a Win 30.1% and Place 70.0%, MIDFIELD on the map so he's not chasing the speed, and he ran second at Dalby 800m last start. Good 13:2-2-1 is the record that makes me comfortable with the price. Perle De Chocolat is the speed danger at $2.50 with ON-PACE and a strong Good record, so if the front-runners get away from Astapor, this is the one who will be out there. American Conquest is BACKMARKER on a pace line that suits him (1.11), with fastest sectionals on his last start, but he has three poor runs including two interference excuses, so the price is only fair.
Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)
1. Astapor (No.1) — $3.80 / $1.40
Bet $4.50 Each Way ($2.25W + $2.25P), collects $11.70 if it wins ($8.55 win + $3.15 place), $3.15 if it only places
Prob 30.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 1.14x ▲8% since tip
Why Best win line on the card, good on a good track, and his last run was second at Dalby. Olivia Kendal rides.
2. Perle De Chocolat (No.5) — $2.60 / $1.17
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.7% | Place: 55.2% | Value: 0.54x ▲4% since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. American Conquest (No.3) — $4.60 / $1.60
Bet Tracked
Prob 20.2% | Place: 54.3% | Value: 0.93x ▼13% since tip
Why Advantaged by the pace and a fastest-in-field sectional last start. Three poor runs since with two interference excuses make him a bit of a leap of faith.
Roughie: Final Voyage (No.6) — $9.00 / $2.45
Bet Tracked
Prob 9.1% | Place: 34.1% | Value: 0.82x ▲6% since tip
Why Three straight runner-up finishes at Ipswich, Kilcoy and Warwick, with a Heavy 2:0-0-1. He is close to the top and the pace is against him, so it's a roughie with a genuine chance of a place.
Race 5 – Sub-Zero Airconditioning Mdn Plate
Race type: Maiden, 870m
Map & tempo: Moderate Pace. LEADER: Over The Limit, Mishpat. ON-PACE: Demes Girl, Hellavalegacy, Just A Sort. MIDFIELD: Trooper Sam, Troy Boy. BACKMARKER: Coolazcanbe, Love To Flirt. UNKNOWN: Mean Mahal, Real Kiss.
Punty read: Mean Mahal is the bet at $2.10, and I'm backing him to win with a $12.50 stake. He won at Dalby 800m last start, the market has come from $2.80 to $2.10 (HEAVY), and Pat W Webster and Leslie Tilley are on a horse with bandages on the front for the first time. Map is unknown, so I'm not claiming a position for him, but the race has two LEADERs and an ON-PACE group that will fight for the front. Over The Limit is the other leader and the horse to fear, with Blinkers ON for the first time and a 0-3-1 record in eight starts. Trooper Sam at $6.50 is MIDFIELD with fastest sectionals on his L600 and L400 last start, so he's the one to keep an eye on for the place.
Top 3 + Roughie ($12.50 pool)
1. Mean Mahal (No.1) — $2.10 / $1.17
Bet $12.50 Win, return $26.25
Prob 27.1% | Place: 70.0% | Value: 0.57x ▼10% since tip
Why Won at Dalby 800m last start, and the market has backed him all the way from $2.80 to $2.10. Leslie Tilley rides.
2. Over The Limit (No.2) — $3.50 / $1.55
Bet Tracked
Prob 25.5% | Place: 61.8% | Value: 0.89x ▲3% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.55 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Trooper Sam (No.3) — $7.00 / $2.20
Bet Tracked
Prob 11.6% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.81x ▲8% since tip
Why MIDFIELD with fastest L600 and L400 last start. He was held up last time out and could be a better price than he looks.
Roughie: Troy Boy (No.8) — $10.00 / $2.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 7.8% | Place: 32.7% | Value: 0.78x ▲5% since tip
Why Second at Warwick 800m last start after interference in the run before. Drifting from $6.50 to $9.50 suggests the market has cooled, but MIDFIELD on a sprint track is not a bad place to be.
Race 6 – Kennards Hire
Race type: Benchmark 65, 870m
Map & tempo: Hot Pace. LEADER: Don't Touch, Kirksville, Igotmymindonyou, Purosangue, Scartoon. ON-PACE: Sutherland, Silk Sonic, Eye Wanted.
Punty read: Kirksville is the bet at $3.00, a $4.50 win stake. The market has backed him from $4.00 to $3.00 (HEAVY) and he has a Good 8:2-1-1 record and a strong combo with Leslie Tilley. The hot pace is the worry, with five LEADERs in a sprint, and the map has him as disadvantaged. That's the reason he's the bet rather than a banker: I think the price is right for a horse that has been running well, and I'm prepared to lose if the early speed cooks him. Igotmymindonyou at $4.80 is the one who will fight him on the speed. Don't Touch has Good 7:5-0-0 and five wins, and he's the one to fear most. Eye Wanted at $34.00 is ON-PACE and has a Heavy 2:0-2-0 record, so he's the roughie that can sit in the tuck and pounce if the speed runs out of steam.
Top 3 + Roughie ($4.50 pool)
1. Kirksville (No.2) — $3.00 / $1.40
Bet $4.50 Win, return $13.50
Prob 23.1% | Place: 60.4% | Value: 0.69x ▼3% since tip
Why Market support from $4.00 to $3.00 and a Good 8:2-1-1 record. Leslie Tilley and Pat W Webster are hot together here.
2. Igotmymindonyou (No.4) — $5.00 / $1.72
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.0% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x ▲4% since tip
Why A real chance — but at $1.72 the place the numbers don't give me enough edge to insure with. Watching, not betting.
3. Don't Touch (No.1) — $5.50 / $1.75
Bet Tracked
Prob 16.3% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.90x ▲10% since tip
Why Good 7:5-0-0 and a first at Goondiwindi 1000m. He has drifted from $3.50 to $5.00 but he's the one to fear on the speed.
Roughie: Eye Wanted (No.7) — $41.00 / $4.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 1.9% | Place: 9.8% | Value: 0.80x ▲21% since tip
Why ON-PACE in a race where the front will be cooked, and Heavy 2:0-2-0 on record. He's a long shot who can run into the place if the leaders tire.
Race 7 – Hannas Toowoomba
Race type: Benchmark 58, 1900m
Map & tempo: Slow Pace. BACKMARKER: Abraham, Little Vain, Headline Legend. ON-PACE: Maravich. MIDFIELD: Sir Goldalot, Coney Island Baby, Flirting With Fire, Bolero.
Punty read: Abraham is the bet at $3.90, a $7.50 each-way stake. He's the fastest runner on the card by speed rank, BACKMARKER in a Slow Pace race with a 1.11 pace advantage, and his sectionals on his last start were fastest in L600, L400 and time. The Toowoomba win over 1625m at 2.4 lengths is a good sign, and Kyle Wilson-Taylor is a 33.3% combo with Nick Keal. The danger is Sir Goldalot at $3.50, MIDFIELD with a Track 10:3-2-2 record and a 1st at Toowoomba 1640m last start. Coney Island Baby is the third leg at $4.20 with a J-HOT jockey line and two placings in his last three runs.
Top 3 + Roughie ($7.50 pool)
1. Abraham (No.1) — $4.00 / $1.57
Bet $7.50 Each Way ($3.75W + $3.75P), collects $20.89 if it wins ($15.00 win + $5.89 place), $5.89 if it only places
Prob 24.1% | Place: 59.4% | Value: 0.96x ▲3% since tip
Why Fastest sectionals on the card and a BACKMARKER in a slow race. Good 12:1-4-1 and a Toowoomba win over 1625m in August.
2. Sir Goldalot (No.3) — $3.50 / $1.50
Bet Tracked
Prob 23.2% | Place: 54.2% | Value: 0.81x Steady since tip
Why The top pick's each-way already covers the place angle here — doubling up is paying twice for the same insurance. Tracked instead.
3. Coney Island Baby (No.6) — $4.40 / $1.62
Bet Tracked
Prob 18.8% | Place: 46.1% | Value: 0.83x Steady since tip
Why Good L600 rank 2 and time rank 2 from the most recent start, with a J-HOT jockey line. He has drifted from $3.50 to $4.20, which is a bit of a warning.
Roughie: Flirting With Fire (No.7) — $11.00 / $2.65
Bet Tracked
Prob 6.8% | Place: 27.9% | Value: 0.74x ▼5% since tip
Why Won at Toowoomba 1910m last start and has the staying trip in his legs. A cheap ride on a race the speed will not dominate.
NUGGETS FROM THE TRACK
1 - Blinkers on for the first time
Over The Limit goes into race 5 with Blinkers ON (first time), Blindfold OFF (first time), and the market has him at $3.50. Watch how he handles the early speed on a heavy track.
2 - Webster and the track
Pat W Webster strikes 18.9% at Toowoomba (326 from 1721) and the trainer's last 100 are at 27%. Lady Willpower in race 1 and Mean Mahal in race 5 both come from that stable.
3 - The slow one
Race 7 is the only Slow Pace race on the card, and it's the 1900m staying trip. Every other race is either Moderate or Hot, so the staying test is the one race where the front-runners can actually get away.
SEQUENCE LANES
QUADDIE (R4–R7)
Smart: 1,5 / 1,2,3 / 2,4,1 / 1,3,6 (54 combos x $0.3704 = $20.00) -- 37% flexi
Punty's take: Race 5 is the tight leg with Mean Mahal and Over The Limit, and Race 4 and Race 7 are where the price pays if the favourites fall away. Race 6 is the wide open leg with four horses in the mix. Honest risk: high, three of four legs are open races, but the 32.4% flexi gives you a real chance of a payout if one of the roughies or second-tier runners comes in.
FINAL WORD FROM THE SICKO SANCTUARY
Heavy 8, rain on the roof and five LEADERs in race 6, so it's going to be a bloody circus. Keep the stakes small, back the bets in the locked lines, and let the rest of the card make you cry.
